I don't care about the length of my roles
Says Ritiesh Deshmukh, talking about his special appearances in films - Kunal M Shah
Ritiesh Deshmukh might have made his mark as a funster with his recent films like Masti, Kya Kool Hai Hum and Bluff Master. However with Priyadarshan's next Maalamaal Weekly, he is all set to do some serious business, that too in the presence of actors like Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani who have excelled in comic fare.
Deshmukh's character in the film is very different from the ones he has done in the past. "My character Kanhaiya does everything for love and not money. After a long time, a village-based film is being shot in actual locations. It is a sweet entertainer but not a funny film. That's the beauty of Priyan's films -- they are a combination of realism and fun."
For this film, Deshmukh has steered clear of comedy. "If I do comedy amidst these stalwarts, people will know my limitations," he says.
The other comedy that Deshmukh is doing is Inder Kumar's Dhamaal. "Anubhav Sinha's film Cash is an interesting film but I can't reveal anything right now. Sajid Khan's film is funny but it is more of a family entertainer."
What about the various special appearances that he made in several films in the past? "Those were films that I signed at a particular time. See, I can't design films for myself as I am not in the position to do so. Instead I pick from the best that is offered to me. Thankfully, there are good offers coming my way now. I would love to work in a film like Naach because that will give me the opportunity to work with Ram Gopal Varma. I don't care about the length of the role, as much as the people I work with."
On the personal front, Deshmukh was in the news for his marriage with his Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti co-star Genelia D'souza, "That's not true. I am not seeing anyone. I am still single and I don't want to talk about my personal life."
