French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages have inherited a large amount of their vocabulary from Latin.
Doctors use Latin - vertebra, humerus, auris.
Lawyers use Latin - res iudicata, subpoena.
Architects use Latin - basilica.
You use Latin when you buy a car - Fiat.
You use terms like etc (et cetera), idem when you write a research paper.
When you go to the church - pater noter.
Or for all movie freaks - Julius Caesar and Spartacus.
Here's an interesting comparison: Reading Latin is like eating health food. It's tough to digest, but you feel good after you're done.
Latin is not a difficult language as you may think.
If we, living in the 21st century, learn Latin, we will be able to understand the minds and souls of people who lived in the first century. Great Latin Authors such as Seneca have written numerous deep philosophical texts. It's surely a shame if you never ever read atleast one of their extraordinary oeuvres.
Since it's no more spoken language (except for some speeches by Pope), the purpose of this CC is not to converse in Latin but to learn the language so that we can understand the original latin texts written by Caesar or Ovidius and even analyse their texts.
I'm sure there are many people who would like to know more about Latin and some may even be die hard Latin lovers like me.
I myself have studied Latin for around 6 years and it's my passion. I've always admired this language!! Latin literature is very much interesting and unique. Once you start reading, you won't able to stop for sure!
