Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is creating a buzz with its compelling storyline, captivating audiences and generating significant excitement. The writer of Ahaan Panday's debut film Saiyaara, Sankalp Sadanah, has come forward to address the controversy surrounding the movie's alleged similarity to the 2004 Korean classic A Moment To Remember. Sankalp firmly stated that Saiyaara is not a copy of any pre-existing film, including the Korean movie. He emphasized that the core idea of Saiyaara emerged from a conversation with director Mohit Suri.
Saiyaara's writer, Sankalp Sadanah, recently addressed controversy surrounding the film's alleged similarity to the Korean classic A Moment to Remember. In an interview with trade analyst Komal Nahta, Sankalp stated, "Honestly, so much has already been said about this. All I can say is—the Korean film is out there, and so is Saiyaara. Watch both and judge for yourself. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s inspired, a copy, or an original.”
The writer revealed that the core idea for Saiyaara emerged during a casual meeting with Mohit Suri. It was a rainy day when they returned from a meeting, and as he was about to leave, Mohit asked him to stay back and share an idea. Mohit inquired if the idea was worth developing into a film, and this sparked the creation of Saiyaara.
“That discussion gave birth to the core of Saiyaara. At that time, there was no story, no screenplay—just a feeling. The seed of the film came from a single emotional thought, a line that appears in the film: ‘A hit song isn’t the one that stays in your head; it’s the one that stays in your heart.’ That was the emotion we built everything else around," Sankalp added.
Saiyaara, a poignant love story directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films. The film follows Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a passionate singer chasing his dreams, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an ambitious journalist, as they navigate the complexities of love, ambition, and societal expectations. As their relationship unfolds, they're forced to confront the harsh realities of their choices, making for a deeply emotional and relatable cinematic experience.
A striking similarity exists between Saiyaara and A Moment To Remember, as both films feature a woman struggling with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, gradually losing her memories of her loved one, particularly her husband. This parallel plot point has sparked debate about the originality of Saiyaara's storyline.
Despite Sankalp's clarification, the debate continues, with some viewers pointing out striking similarities between the two films, while others praise Saiyaara's original elements, such as its music and performances.
