Poonam finds out that Jyoti is Deepu's step-sister, not his own. KK tells Padma that the reason she keeps calling herself a step-mother is that somewhere inside, that's how she sees herself (well, DUH!!! ) Padma tells him that he's again blaming her, and not recognizing what she's done for the house. She goes into a pity tale of how she sacrificed for his kids. She accuses him of having blinders on, and convincing himself that she's only a step-mom, nothing more. She tells him that regardless of whether it's Deepu or Jyoti, she's done everything for the kids, never for herself. KK tells her that she's letting this rationale go to her head, and urges her to forget that she's a step-mom, and totally diverting the topic. He decides that it's worthless arguing w/ her and turns away. All this while, Poonam is overhearing this conversation, and has figured out the interpersonal dynamics of her in-laws.
Padma tells KK that he's again turning away from the tough questions he has to face, as always. She says that it kills his ego that while he's alive, a woman is performing his role. KK is furious, and turns to her, but Padma leaves. Poonam too returns to their room, where Deepu is asleep. She is resentful that nobody told her that Jyoti was Deepu's step-sister, not even Jyoti-didi herself.
Jyoti is @ the interview for her 2nd job, and the interviewer is impressed by her resume. He tells her that there are 3 criteria for working for their newspaper - representing new ideas in creative ways, writing everyday w/o a degradation in quality, and deliver on time, irrespective of any personal issues. He asks her if she can do all that? Jyoti affirms that, but the interviewer said that every interviewee says that, but very few are able to meet it. He asks her whether she's read their articles, and her opinions on those. Jyoti tells him that if he doesn't mind, but the interviewer tells her that this is a usual tactic to try and impress the interviewer... - to criticize. He asks her if she has any suggestions to improve it.
Jyoti points out that people read these things for their enjoyment, but the most of articles they publish tend to depress. For instance, the articles on womens issues are ones women empathize w/, but after a while, it gets boring, since they don't have solutions to the problems being covered, which the common people don't identify w/. Jyoti tells him that she wants to write for the common people - provide small but practical solutions that would convince such people that they'd make a difference. She also wants to reach out to the male readership, and tells him that the paper is too oriented towards women, but the men are also involved in these issues. The interviewer tells her that what she says is impressive, but can she deliver? Jyoti tells him that if she does write, it will be due to her motivation to write and her necessity, so there won't be any delivery issues. The interviewer tells her that he wants to read her articles, since she has impressed him, so he wants to see how impressive her writing is.
Jyoti's phone rings, and she sees that it's from Neelam's dad, and disconnects it and apologizes. He calls again a second time, and the interviewer tells her that if a phone rings a second time, it's an emergency, so to go and take it. Jyoti thanks him, and steps out and takes it. Neelam's dad asks her if she's decided anything on the divorce. Jyoti tells him that she's in a meeting, and would herself call him later.
She returns to the interviewer who is by now on the phone, discussing work, and he asks Jyoti to come tomorrow w/ her article. Jyoti is taken aback by how sudden this is, but he gives her a thumbs up and continues. She then smiles and leaves.
While she is getting ready on her scooter, her phone rings again, and it's Bhagya-dada. He tells her that one of their top dancers is out on urgent business, and his assistant isn't available, and their rehearsals are soon, so he has a problem. Jyoti offers to come, but Bhagya tells him that since she's sick, as he was informed by her dad, she should rest. Instead, she should assign this task to one of her students who she trusts. Jyoti can't remember any, and insists on coming herself (why doesn't she assign this to Kalpana, and instead work on her article, which is due tomorrow? Why is she double-booking herself, biting off more than she can chew? This is one sign of a bad employee) Bhagya asks her whether she's forcing herself, and she assures him that she isn't, and then leaves.
At home, Deepu is getting ready, and asking Poonam what is she looking at? She then asks him how many brothers and sisters they are? Deepu is shocked @ the question, and he says 4. She emphasizes - his own brothers & sisters!
She challenges him on whether Jyoti is his step sister? Deepu is furious, and tells her that they are 4!!! Poonam tells him that Jyoti is his step-sister, and Deepu tells her that just in case she didn't understand, Jyoti is his own sister!!! Poonam asks him why is he so angry - she too is a part of this family, and doesn't she have a right to know about her family? Or does he, like his sisters, not accept her as a part of it? Deepu calms down and tells her that his mom's elder sister died when Jyoti and Sudha were still kids, and so his dad married his mom. But Jyoti was never his step-sister! He also tells her not to ever dare ask the question that she was trying to ask. He tells her that Jyoti didi was like a mom to him.
The next day, after pujas, Jyoti is offering sweets to celebrate her new job. They ask her how she is, and she's better, having had her meds. Dadi tells her to rest. Sushma arrives and helps herself, and Jyoti asks where Poonam and Deepu are, and is told that they've gone out. She then goes to KK, but he is angry w/ her for disobeying him and going to teach dance despite her illness, and Jyoti tells him that there was nobody to fill in. She then gives him one sweet, and tells him that she got what she wanted from that visit.
Padma turns to her and asks her what her salary is, and KK turns towards her in disgust. He asks whether anybody bothered to find out how the job was, and refuses to let Jyoti work more in her present condition. He tells her that they'll make do w/ whatever she earns off 1 job. He says that he'd be getting some translation work as well, as he's applied in a couple of places (if he was once an advocate, can't he apply for legal work of some sort?) Jyoti assures him that there is no running around in the job she's gotten.
She also tells them that she's decided to sign off on the papers that Pankaj wanted, so that he can get his divorce quickly. KK tells her that she's helping those people who've snatched away everything from her, but Jyoti tells him that she wants to help herself by ending all this and getting them out of her life (how about the part that she'd be signing off on a lie? Somehow, even the virtuous KK forgets it this time). She asks Padma if she's happy, and Padma reluctantly agrees.
In another room, Sushma tries to take her medicine, but finds the bottle empty. She then takes out her purse, but finds only Rs3 in it. She then goes to Jyoti and tells her that her medicine is finished, and Jyoti finds herself short, and asks Deepu for Rs 200.
Deepu agrees, but sees his purse is inside, and goes to his room, where Poonam is doing her nails. He asks her for the purse, and she asks him where he is going, but he insists on getting it. He then goes out and gives Sushma the money, and then Poonam comes there and asks him how much of his salary goes into her treatment? Everybody is shocked to hear that - KK, Jyoti, Dadi...
Poonam asks them why they are all staring @ her like that - did she ask anything wrong? It's they who told her that this is her family and she has all rights, and besides, this is her hubby's earnings, so she has every right to know that. Deepu tries to reason w/ her, but Poonam points out that other than meds, expenses do go into other things, like clothes... She points out that Sushma doesn't do anything, and neither does her hubby, everything has to be done by Deepu, right? She asks him whether that was the reason that he told her the other day that he had no cash, and asks him how would he, if he spent everything on them?
At this point, Jyoti is the one pissed and shouts @ Poonam. She tells her that had she not been the bahu, she would have slapped her, since she had hurt Sushi so much - what if she had lives Sushma's experience? She demands that Poonam apologize to Sushma this instant. Poonam asks her who is she to tell her what she can or can't do in her own home? She reminds Jyoti that it was she who told Poonam that her real home is her sasural, and so by that logic, this is not her home, since both of them had left their hubbies and now live there. So who is she to teach her what's right and what's wrong? The biggest point was that Jyoti's not even Poonam's nanad, since she's Sandeep's step-sister, and therefore she has no right to tell her anything!!! Everybody is stunned to hear this, including Padma.
Today's episode brought things to a point where Padma & Poonam will be competing for who has the worse marriage. Poonam overheard the fact that Jyoti was not Deepu's own sister, and despite Deepu explaining the relationship, she hit Jyoti w/ that when confronted by her. If until now, the serial had been about the persecution of bahus like Jyoti & Sudha by Bhairavi, it's now transformed about the bahu from hell by Poonam. Somehow, it's funny how everybody who was discovered by Jyoti - Brij (for Sushma), Pankaj and now Poonam have turned out to be disasters, and only Uday, who's discovery was more due to Devika, is the only stable damaat/bahu that the Sharmas have. But I was glad that instead of pampering Poonam, Jyoti finally confronted her on her behavior, even if she was shocked @ Poonam knowing that Deepu was her step-brother. So in addition to Bhairavi, Jyoti has stopped taking nonsense from Poonam. Now, the sooner she adds Padma to that august list...
On Poonam herself, it's high time the Sharmas called the Trivedis and discussed her behavior w/ them, and asked them what they recommend. Essentially, read them the riot act and tell them that if they want Poonam to remain in this marriage, they have to discipline her and make it clear to her that if she throws tantrums and threatens to storm out of her sasural, she won't be taken back into her maayka. If they aren't willing to do that, they would have to accept that this marriage is over and take her back - this just can't continue. Of course, if Padma stands by Poonam, as I suspect she will, such a threat won't even be contemplated.
The high point was the interview w/ the newspaper, and for once, they showed something positive about Jyoti - her confidently discussing w/ her interviewer her viewpoints on it. I also liked how she cut the calls from Neelam's dad, and kept it short. For once, I liked her approach. However, soon after, she disappointed again by going to the dance - she could have asked Kalpana, or let it go - it's not like she'd have gone home and slept - she has this article to write for tomorrow.
On the divorce issue, I disagree w/ her now. If it is not okay to lie for money, why is it okay to lie for the convenience of Pankaj or Neelam? And I can bet that Jyoti won't be taking the Rs2 crores - she'll just be lying for free. Why doesn't Jyoti just suggest to them that they go ahead w/ the ceremony, and make that official a year later? What do they lose?
Exit question - is this marriage over, and will Deepu become the 3rd divorcee in the family?

Okay, the last segment was painful to watch, but other than that, it was a good episode, particularly w/ Jyoti's interview. Watch part 1, and maybe part 2, and avoid part 3.
