of course animals have rights. i think the problem comes when an animals right infringes on the right of a human beings right to live a normal and healthy life. here in india we have a huge stray dog problem. some of these dogs do attack human beings, including children. the worst part its the middle and lower middle class people who are most affected. there was a case where a 4-yr old child had half his face bitten off by a dog recently as he was walking across the fields... and rabies is another problem with these dogs roaming around, so whose right should we value more here? should the dogs be removed so we can lead a healthy life or should we respect their right to roam around freely?

Interesting topic since the author did not give his views , i feel its not been posted with the seriousness it deserves . My siggy will tell you my feelings on this topic!!

I love animals, but in my point of view, Non-humans are currently regarded as the property of their human owners, animals should be thought of as persons under the law. Another goal is to utilize existing law in creative and novel ways to ensure both that animals are protected.provide justice -- and not just charity -- to the non-human with whom humans share this planet.....

Can't you just spay/neuter the dogs. Euthanise the ones infected with rabies.

And you people, you talk about animal rights but you are hypocrites. I guess all of you love your tandoori chicken and fish and all that shit. First be vegetarian: success to a good life and animal friedly.

Hi Bulba ,

I talk about animal rights but i am a non - vegetarian . I truly believe in ethical treatment of animals and compassion for them .

You may think i may sound like a hypocrite . But strangely in India where majority of the people are Vegetarian . One of the reasons i dislike India is that people call themselves Vegetarian but do not have a iota of compassion for animals . They will kick the stray who dares to sit outside their house . They will stone a dog who mates openly . They will laugh at you if you ask them to show compassion to animals and bring forth the argument tha we should help the poor and needy first .( Not that they ever do that)
I love the U.S , which is primarily a meat eating Country , but has immense compassion for animals . Their are cruelty cases here too . But far less that in India where people are Vegetarian .

Animals are as imp as human beings, we wouldnt have come this far,
LIke APARNA I do my bit and was too happy to see the Britons going bersek saving a whale that had ventuered in the river Thames.
On the other hand I am still recovering from a painting/pic exhibition that the animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi organised, it had depiction of animals being chained and in some being used as beasts of burden she was the one who had cried foul and given notice to the makers of rang dey basente for encouraging cruelty against animals. wasnt she doing the same thing? The money raised will be used for god knows what. I was quite taken aback at this show of perverted activism.

Those pics are anti chains for animals. They may be having slogans like " chained for life without parole " , "chain your door and not your dog" , "Let your dog in to your house this summer" etc etc etc !!

i hv a lot to say today

in science today, our teacher brought a chicken leg, to show us how muscles are joint onto bones, it was disgusting and i didnt want to look at it, so i didnt and everybody started saying its only a chicken, it wont hurt it, its dead. i said, its dead so shouldnt it rest in peace, how would u feel if yr leg was gonna be chopped off and cute wen u died, and they said, its dead, it cant feel...but so wot, it was once a living animal, they say its just a chicken, but that chicken had a life too, how did he know that after he died his leg would be chopped off and used as experiments in schools.
why is it that they can use part of an animals body wen they die, but they dont use humans, is it just because animals arent humans, big deal, they hv feelings too...just because animals cant stick up for themselves as much as humans, doesnt mean they have no right to rest in peace after they die.
it was horrible, the teacher was cuttng the skin off, and showing us the bones, yes, i know thats the way some ppl cook chicken, but it was disgusting, atleast then yr not doing it to show everyone, the teacher could have used a diagram from a book or something, but no she had to bring a chickens leg in...and she said, its just a chicken, but theres not much differance between animals and humans so why is it that they can chop off chickens legs for experiments but not humans.
i know people eat chickens and not humans, but i think killing animals is cruel, so im never eating meat, ever
