'We don't owe an explanation'

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who is a co-owner of Rajasthan Royals Indian Premier League (IPL) team, said team owners don't owe an explanation for dropping Pakistani players from auction for the third season of the Twenty20 matches.

"We don't owe an explanation on our decision on Pakistani players. The reasons for dropping are understandable in the current scenario. We would like the media and the people to react to such situations more sensibly," Shilpa told reporters on Jan 22.

She also said that the franchisees couldn't provide for the security of the Pakistan players and hence decided against bidding for them in the auction.

"We wanted the players to be in the country and at that point of time we were more worried about security. We did not want to take onus for their security," she said.

Shilpa along with Preity Zinta, co-owner of Kings XI Punjab team, IPL chief Lalit Modi and representative of other franchises were addressing a press conference in Mumbai after a tie-up between IPL and Network 18's entertainment channel Colors for post match coverage.

"They have just sensationalised the issue. We request the country to collectively handle the situation sensibly," said Preity.

Modi said: "There is no conspiracy against Pakistani players."

It was an auction.

No one bought them....it happens in auctions.

Why do they need to give explanation.

With the sentimentsof Indians I think India do have say in whom they want want in their team. All owners are INdians so they do care about the Indian sentiments. If there were owners and money from otehr nations then they could have raised this point but all money and all team owners are Indians. And it was India who got burned over and over again. It would have been difficult with all teh security arrangements and all..

Big deal out of nothing...And I am loving the power of girls. Only Preity and Shilpa came out to defend. Go girls..

If I were a cricketer from Pakistan I would be massively pissed off.

If they were not going to be picked up they shhould have not been invited in the first place. They were made to look like idiots.

And Shilpa Shetty should be the last person making statements on sensitive issues like this. For God sake here is a woman who thought Shane Warne was a fast bowler.

The thing here is she is the OWNER of the team. She can call Yuvraj wicketkeeper...sheis paying thier bills. 😆

Wait they were invited?

But if they had decided not to pick paki players for security purposes, then why invite them in teh first place?

They were on the list of IPL auction.

IPL auctions were delayed because of them

There was some problem with their VISA.

IPL auction got postponed so many tiems due to that.

No opne picked any player in IPL auctions.

IPL Team owners decided this onthier own for not creating problems at the games and not wanting to spend extra money onthe security arrangement after paying the players their dues.

I still don't see how it is a controversy?....Am I not allowd to pick whom I am inviting to my party from my class

I meant they were added to the auction.

My point is if there were going to be visa issues they should not even be included in the auction.
