Ever since Shravni Episode, the serial is increasingly going down that same sickening path of male chauvinism.

Manav was never a match to Archna materially. Archna is a beautiful daughter of respectable parents of comfortable middleclass status who would not willingly give away their daughter to Manav- basically a garage mechanic hailing from a dysfunctional family of no education , lower middle class status, staying in the grim surroundings [How much ever romantic that home is made it remains a chawl]

Equal footing was achieved basically through –

On Archana's Part:

1. Lack of education but with a really noble and sensitive nature.

On Manav's Part:

1. The nobility and goodness of heart.

2. Basic respect for women and elders.

3. Understanding and sensitivity of mind.

4. Unconditional love for Archna.

5. A deep sense of responsibility towards the family and resulting sacrifice from a very early age.

Now in keeping his portrayal true to this last virtue of responsibility, the character has started dispensing with all other four strong points which made him so desirable to Archna.

For all his earlier nobility He has started shouting at Archna.

For all his earlier deference, he is showing only contempt [this is not anger] to Archna.

For all his earlier understading nature He is not ready to give a single patient hearing to Archna's plea on apologies for distrust or denials as a party to the complaint.

And for all his earlier seemingly unfathomable love, He is flatly declaring her as a spent past!

While Archna is made to bag for a piece of love like alms for a poor, He is standing there grand and almost stating-'Having conquered you once, I discard you now like a piece of unwanted luggage'!

Archna does not deserve this crap.

1. The nobility and goodness of heart.

Cos Manav is noble, he cannot shout at someone who he thinks has brought so much of misery to him and his family.. you expect him to shower rose petalson someone whom he considers the villain right now??? Unrealistic.
On the other hand, I wud like to point out that Manav did not insult Varsha, Satish or even Archu when they came to him to explain things.
2. Basic respect for women and elders.
He gave up his seat for Archu when she was uncomfortable in the train. When Archana fell at his feet, he immediately picked her up, not once but twice. When his Aai manhandled her, he stopped her at once.

3. Understanding and sensitivity of mind.

Right now the understanding is gone cos he has seen so much hatred in the past 6 months + Sulochana's phone conversation.. easily led him to believe that Archu was party to a scheming plan, even if she didn't make the complaint herself. What do you expect him to do.. be God like and say inspite of all you have done I will forgive you cos I love you., inspite of the fact that my family has suffered so much... his wounds are deep and will take time to heal.. only one simple line that i didn't make the complain isn't enough to convince him.
But I will give you one example of understanding as well...when Archu cries before him to let her come to Sachin's Asthi Visarjan since she wants to see him one last time, he agrees, despite the fact that he considers her responsible for Sachin's death to some extent.
Sensitivity.. very much there... when Archana felt uncomfortable in the train, he gave up his seat.. cos he understood how she must be feeling
4. Unconditional love for Archna.
Love is there alright. He is just trying to hide it well and show that he has moved on in life very well.. proof?? In todays episode when Archu goes missing he looks for her the whole night, remembers her, misses her and finally drops her off to safety.
Just give the character some more time is all I would say.

@nikitagmc

I mean, having sensed and enjoyed his earlier good points as noted herein, they are compromised now behind the excuse of 'responsibility and duty' while character of Archna is being downgraded with expense of self respect.

i agree with the post .

You are talking of the major changes in his persona and indeed they have happened.

If his respect for her is counted by the same way he gave up seat for her in train , feelings have changed . Formerly it was love , now it is mere etiquette .

Sensitivity has gone down the drain or he wud have realised that Archana sat down in deep shock at the station not to hurl more accusations at him but coz she was shaken .

Unconditional love isnt there anymore . He has his own priorities , his own responsibilities . His bro's child , keeping his mum happy , his own family has somehow and somewhere displaced his love and he stands very firmly by it with his own volition . No one has wrung his hand .

The biggest disrespect he showed to archana was by wringing her hand and thats where the creatives blackened manavs character .

he watched her coldly leave the house , he clearly wanted her Out .

The best parts of his character were in his sensitivity , unconditional prioritization of his love , understanding ..........and all 3 facets of his personality have been slashed by creatives like an artist wud plash a big black brush mark over a wonderful colourful painting . I will not today for arguments sake quantify these qualities that u listed by giving various little examples ............as I get the gist of your post and I cannot help but agree with it .

The Manav in the title song has gone .

when i said he didnt deserve her in the first place only , my bluntness miffed some forum members who nowdays keep saying he dOESN"T DESRVE HER sarcastically . I felt sorry i hurt their feelings but my opinion remains the same and it was refreshing to see you voice it .

Nowhere was this rishta equal .

In a rishta one sees financial stability and also the capacity to get mental peace to a girl .

Manav had neither . No finances , a stinky area chawl home , and mental peace was zilch . Becoz his own father had no mental peace due to his abusive wife , he was drinking heavily and the other brother constantly stayed outside home and was a vagabond.

Sulochana was criticized heavily for looking down on Manav but it was her duty to see her daughter settled in life . To her credit when she gave the marraige a chance , Manav failed to mke it work in her eyes as sulochana witnessed greedy demands from her daughters mother in law and the son in law quietly gave a necklace from his own pocket instead of assuring her that his mom wud STOP .

Any girls mom wud have an heart attack . Girish was not ready to keep Shravani with savita even for one day after witnessing just one tamasha.

The only snag was archus education , but good boys like Satish were although rare , not exactly non existent . It has to be remembered that if rasika's intervention had not been there the rishta with satish wud have been pulled off and Archu wasnt even in love with manav . Manav was in love with archu .

But people get offended when these facts r pointed out . Blaming Archu so much , saying Bahut der kardi , is really ridiculous . If his bro had not done this jaldi , the marraige cud indeed have been salvaged coz he wud have listened to her .

What absolutely put me off was his yelling . He has twisted her arm , yelled at her , told her is marrying another gal , that nothing can be done and simply verbally told his mom leave her instead of firing her for abusing a girl PERIOD , always mutely listened when his mom said I did hajamat of her family , manhoos Archu , badchalan ARchu .....and all that the poor girls fault was doubts entered her mind when the police told publicly that Manav was a stalker kinda guy after just 15 days of marraige .

Is this believable or fair ? Whatever he went thru was coz his mother was his greatest enemy who sold her soul to the devil........Manju , who bit his full family . His mother is STILL HIS enemy .

Its not just Manav , no guy is worth taking all this shit and humiliation . Archu desrved far better from the outset . Manav , with his dysfunctional family and problems wud either have remained unmarried or wud have got a typical gal from suburban chawls who wud have perhaps survived better in that house as she wud have fought like a fishwife with Savita .

Forgive me but this is what i felt .

I agree with you kool . I found Manav to be exceptionaly cold in today's episode . Unfortunately it is Archana who is giving this man the power to destroy her , all in the name of Love .

Hmm... I see both sides of this, and am convinced in some ways by both sides.
One thing that's become obvious through this though, whether his character has changed or its just a type of farce, is that he has quite a bit of "power" in his house. It just really stood out to me in the scene where he tells Archana to come with him to his room, and everyone shuts up. I was just like wow, he should use the power of shutting everyone up more often, but in the right way. He uses this new directness and angry voice to stop Archana and Shravani from making independent decisions, which isn't the right usage. He's kind of tried on Savita, but never really effectively. This leads into one thing I don't understand, if they are showing Manav as the angry man (whether they have changed his character or he's just putting on an act to seem "tough" and deal with everything) why not use it for the better? Angry Manav has a lot of potential, everyone actually listens to him and even do what he says; Shravani and Archana have already proven this, Damodar/Kaka/Vandita listen to him as well, and if he did it with enough power and conviction then he could even shut Savita up for good.
As for the original post, again, I see both sides. Its all about perception here in my opinion.

I respect the reasoning in original post. But why is Manav blamed for Archna's willfulness? His best answer to Archna was his clear statement to her. He can not allow her walking out or walking in his life at her own whims.

he keeps telling her ' tum ne bahut der kar di Archana' , what I would like to see is his reaction when he finds out that the main person who kept them apart for this long was his own mother . Otherwise Archana even came to his garage , his home with the divorce papers ..........how can he say that it was Archana who took long to come .

wilfulness ? Archana didnt get up and walk out of the house to follow her own whims . She left when the police blamed him for being a stalker guy who had stalked her , targeted her and succesfully married her by devious plotting . Photographs of him with various prostitutes were shown to the public and police vouched that he had bailed the pimp out from jail.

Now honestly tell me , which lady or girl , after just a 15 day old arranged marraige not get scared and shocked ? Anyone would leave . This leaving is not due to the whims.........he is way out of line to even say it if he has. His own sister wud have done the same thing if these things had happened to her .

Varsha had left the house due to her whim . She wanted a taste of independent life . Now that leaving can be called as whimsical . Not Archana's leaving .

Right on and NO ONE notices this fact . That indeed she had come , his mom delayed their communicaion with a series of white lies that have todate NOT been found out . All his accusations are extremely unfair . Archana did not come late , his mom delayed their communication ........his bro was in a hurry to get his fiancee pregnant . Archana at least had the common sense to try and have a direct face to face talk with him before signing the divorce papers , he didnt even do that . Before giving that signature which was so valuable and wud truly finalize the end of their relationship he didnt bother to ask her , but assumed things by listening to her vahini . He was married to Archu , not Manju . Savita told Archu so many lies to make her sign on divorce papers but she said I will only when i see his sign . And even after he signed she went to confront him .

And it seems usne bahut der kar di . What about the fact that he was late in procuring proof of his innocence ? He didnt even know how to start getting it till his dad stepped in .
