I think today's episode was a good example of a bad day. Like one of those days when nothing goes your way and you feel all discouraged, but then you come out of it and in the end everything turns out all right. :)
Today's episode was def. a lot less entertaining than the first one. There was nothing majorly humorous as such but I still thought it was meaningful in terms of Mahi's character and journey.
What I liked the best was the ending. It really made me smile. I loved how Mahi at the end of that horrible day, decides to not give up. I loved her smart way of finally getting to submit her article. I loved her smile as she goes, "Boyfriends ko maro goli, ab toh mera career fly karega". But then she realizes that no, having a boyfriend is just as important. lol And her end realization that she is who she is and whoever likes her will have to accept her in this package. YAY Go Mahi! :D
And I liked Mahi's little moments like her fear of waxing and her trying to get her scooter in through the traffic in order to NOT miss her lift wala moment with Ishaan. :)
It seems this show is JUST focusing on Mahi's character though and not on any of the others. It doesn't look like Sid and Roshni will have anymore to them than to be around Mahi. And the office staff is seriously annoying and OTT. Even the sister and the mom could've had more potential if explored a bit more. I thought they were believable in the first epi., but today they were barely tolerable. I mean they can be superficial and selfish etc. that's fine, but I wish they would have more to their character in terms of bonding with Mahi.
But Mahi's character was really well explored, so it seems like that's all that can be expected from the show at this point. I'm still in love with her character just as much as I was in the first episode. She's SO real. I love how she criticizes herself but still in the end accepts herself the way she is. What I like most about her is that she is far from perfect in any way. She is not an extreme character by any means. She's neither the super nice behenji shy girl types nor a total bindass bubbly or bold types. She's just a normal and average girl with her own her own qualities as well as imperfections about her. She accepts herself for certain things like her weight and her 'desponess' lol, and at the same time she wishes she was bolder. What I love is that her main problem with herself is NOT her weight. Yes she is self critical, but for the reasons most important to her. She loves her food and accepts her body as it is, but what she really wishes she had more of is her confidence. She's always criticizing herself for not speaking her mind, except to those she knows best.
I think Mahi's biggest problem with the world around her is that it expects too much. There's too many assumptions about people and perfect ways to behave, and to be. I liked that part about how she was afraid of being judged by those guys she was set up with. She doesn't quite be herself with them for this very reason. And so I think Mahi's major struggle with herself is her wish to be herself and for people to accept her the way she is, but she is also aware of the type of world she lives in and is therefore afraid to open herself up to this world. It's basically her inner conflict with who she wants to be (and is in reality) and how others expect her to behave.
And that's really something we all deal with everyday nahin? These inner conflicts with ourselves, and struggling to be ourselves and finding ourselves. And our everyday struggles when nothing goes the way we want it to. But this episode shows how we can deal with it by realizing that the world's not perfect and the best thing we can do is accept ourselves the way we are and fight for our dreams. And that's exactly what Mahi does-despite having the worst day she ends up being content by believing in herself and accepting herself the way she is. :)
