"Heer, I want to come to the doctor with you this morning. I want to find out what is wrong with you. Please let me come, I can postpone this meeting until later this afternoon or tomorrow." Pleaded Prem with his stubborn wife. "No Prem. Really, I will be fine going alone and plus you have been preparing for this meeting for so many weeks. I can't let you cancel the meeting and risk losing this deal. I will be fine alone. I will take Meher with me if that makes you feel better." "Fine, but call me as soon as you are done." Replied Prem before giving his wife a goodbye kiss.
An hour later, Heer walked out of the doctors office with the biggest smile on her face. She was the happiest woman today, but little did she know her world was about to turn upside down. Since she knew her husband was probably still in the meeting, she sent a text message to her husband: I love you so much, papa Prem! As she got into her car and turn on the radio, Heer heard horrifying news. Two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center. "Prem is in the South Tower! Oh my god, Prem!" screamed Heer as she quickly dialed Prem's office number. The phone line was dead. A lump started growing in her throat as she tried to not think of the worst. She dialed his cell phone and it started ringing.
Prem heard his cell phone singing his favorite song, the song that represented his love for his wife. He knew she was calling. As he answered the phone, he heard the horror in her voice. "Prem, tell me you are ok. Please. Tell me you made it out of there!" "Heer, I am fine. I have to make sure Chase is ok. I will call you as soon as I find him. I love you Heer."
End flashback
That was the last time Heer had heard his voice and those three words. Chase had broken the news to her a few hours later that Prem had not made it. He, while saving Chase, had been stabbed with a large piece of metal while they were running down the stairs. Chase had revealed that Prem had not only saved his life, but the lives of many others in the office that had become unconscious upon the sudden hit of the plane. The day that she had found out she was going to be a mother was the day she lost the love of her life. She still felt his presence till this day and knew he was looking over their beautiful daughter, Chahat. "I love you" she heard as the wind coming through the open window hugged her. "I love you too Prem, I love you too."
Since today is an anniversary of a horrible day, not only here in the United States, but also in the world, I thought of writing a one shot based around Heer and Prem. There were many heros on that day that lost their life, while saving those of countless others. Seen in the act of 19 animals was that humanity did exist and good will always prevail over evil. Lets remember those who perished on this day and cherish those that we have with us today.
