Reality TV bites and it bites big time. Ask the victims. It sucks when your personal moments are captured and innermost inhibitions laid bare in front of all. If it is happening and you just report it, it is different, but when you provoke the person for the effect for TV, it is not funny. I watched a Oprah Winfrey episode one month back, when she was talking to a mother whose ex-husband had killed her two kids and stabbed her 55 times. She survived. On the show, Oprah repeated her questions, bent them in every possible way to churn out the tears from the lady, but her tears had dried up. It was nauseating to watch the goddess of talk show playing blatantly for the sake of reality TV. This one is more pathetic. Two years back when I was in India, I was watching a news channel. The story was, a tiger had taken away a two-year old kid and eaten it, in rural village. The reporter, spoke to the MOTHER of the child, asking her, "how do you feel about this" I do not even want to write what was the mom's reaction!!!!
Our own SRGMP comes very near to this tamasha baazi for sake of TRP. What about the poor kids who happened to participate in a "singing competition", only to find out that now they are supposed to be actors, dancers, and their short comings are for everybody to see. On top of that, the tension created while announcing the results, and the camera focusing on the contestant, their family members, is not right GS. The tasteless drama held at the time Paresh was eliminated was not funny. See Hemachandra broke down, so much so that he had a tough time controlling himself. Did the camera offer him dignity, no, it cashed on it. A good one or two minutes we were shown Paresh's back, bcz thankfully Hema had buried his face in Paresh's shoulder. And the best thing is if the Things are not happening, MAKE THEM HAPPEN. I remember, after Vinit sang Sandese aate hai, Kapildev was quite relaxed. HR went a little crazy as usual and scraped out some crocodile tears. Even Vinit was cool; he simply said he missed his mom. Hr took him to his own mom etc. After all this, Kapil was still cool, but we know, he is emotional, so how do we play to his emotions? Shaan asked him, "sir, we know even you are emotional, what do you have to say" Boy, the ball was set rolling and Kapil ran with it. The mood was created I think. next day there were reports shouting how Kapil was moved to tears!!! What was the big point in asking Debo's wife, how did she feel about Debo getting fewer points? See the poor family members are already under lot of stress, one poke and they are ready to burst. Why they are not spared. Instead they are dragged down to the arena, their emotions are played upon and preyed upon and shown to billions watching. Who needs paparazzi?
Common Gajji, this is a singing competition, not a Hindi masala potboiler. You have lost all your credibility, as it is, please try to salvage some dignity.
