Have you ever dreamed about a joyful world with peace and prosperity for all Mankind.
A world in which we respect and love each other despite the differences in our culture,
religion and way of life?

I often feel helpless when I see the world in turmoil, a result of the differences between
our ideals. This leads to grief and sorrow being inflicted on millions of innocent victims
by a few who abuse the power of their convictions.

Peace is some thing that we all wish to achieve, but sometimes revenge can poison our minds
and we hold grudges for days and even years before we give up.

So the question is as an individual what can I do to do some thing concrete, some thing that's
going to make a difference

I sincerely ask every one to stay away from any political comments or blaming any religion, culture,or any nation - my question is as an individual, what we can do to make this beautiful planet even better

We can stop being bitter, that's what we can do. And to learn to embrace the world around us with a smile on our faces.

yes I think for world peace we should put our own country in order first. If the citizens are dissatisfied and hungry with no jobs it will lead to a domestic turmoil which can overflow to the neighbouring countries.

Yes here is an interesting article on Mahatma Gandhi and peace

Mahatma Gandhi and peace

Kathmandu, Nepal, September 22 — Mahatma Gandhi is greatly respected as one who championed non-violent action. He re-wrote the meaning of forgiveness, non-violence and love by adopting peaceful means to fight for rights.

With peace as a weapon of action, with forgiveness as a means towards love, he defeated violence and fought for the freedom of the oppressed and marginalized communities under British rule in India and in South Africa. The meaning of peace is to offer happiness.

He stared at peace and his actions depicted forgiveness and love. He wrote how violence produced complexity in life. He understood the meaning of peace and freedom.

He did his best to lead life towards reality, towards forgiveness, peace and co-existence. The burden of looking after others falls on a soldier. He was a hero. In fact, achieving freedom and peace is a difficult journey and this journey is infinite. It was that he had wished to be a prestigious and successful person but worked to bring light in the life of many. Life and peace means to struggle and he struggled in poverty and in difficult situations.

He spent many years fighting for his nation, for social justice and civil rights. He was a kind-hearted person who dreamt about many things in life -- a peaceful nation, non-violent action and independence.

I pray to God that he comes into our lives again to give us the courage to face the world in times of war and growing terrorist activities. I feel sad and disturbed when I see innocent children being killed.

When I walk past walls, billboards and crowds, I question peace and justice in today's world and look for meaning in Gandhi's actions that could perhaps help diffuse current conflicts. To feel hatred and disbelief towards war and terrorism and escape it all by not understanding myself is my weakness.

Gandhi's philosophy of justice and equality can lead the path towards peace. I see birds flying high in the far distance. They have a definite destination. Gandhi also had a definite goal and purpose. He will always be revered and respected as the "Peace Man."

Very interesting topic and may be one of the most concerned topics in the world right now ...
We all know the adage "peace lies within ourselves " but it's easier said than done ...The basic step towards peace is tolerance and let go of one's ego .....both are increasingly difficult to get rid off in this individualistic world we are living in ...specially among the ones who shape the rules of law ....the leaders!!!!!!!!!
Even mere mortals like us r getting intolerant and egoist in each passing days ...."it takes a village to raise a child "....but when near and dear ones don't have time to raise a child what a village can do??? ...My heart cries out too when I see the fights, war, killings , and hatred around the world ..which is growing in each passing day ....but even if I play my part of tolerance( I used the word tolerance because from there caring, affection , kindness stem from) and let my head and heart rule my ego, I can't change the minds of the leaders ...... dictators , who play with minds of people because they have the power!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....
Ideally if all r little bit more tolerant and exercise less ego ..we can make our lives less painful and more peaceful .... Now who would tell the leaders and dictators of many countries around the world to exercise more tolerance.... and not to practise and preach that they know best and their ideals r going to change the face of the world towards "peace and harmony"?????????????????
I would like to know the solution ..I know the theories ...but don't know how to put into practice even if I play my part well !!!!!!!!! ....

Very well said Koeli - but I believe that our leaders are people like us

Well firstly, we are not going to be able to spread love and peace unless we have a heart full of love and peace ourselves.

If we carry those feelings around within us, then we cannot help but pass them on to all we meet.

To always be on the look out for any small acts of kindness that we can do. These can add up to hundreds of small acts each day as our awareness widens and we see more and more opportunities to act from a place of Love.

Give people time, be patient with them, listen to them. Sometimes the most valuable thing we can give to another is for them to know that they have been truly heard.

Help to lift other people's burdens for them by seeing and bringing out the best in them. See the best in them and reflect it back to them. People can feel so much happier when they know that someone recognizes them for what they are. They will then go on to spread happiness and love.
