Mahi i think it all depends, differents cultures associate colours for different things. i always thought u wear all black only in sad occassions like someone's passing at least that's my thought on the issue

It depends solely on faith and belief, IMO. I am not quite sure, but I do not think scientists have been able to find any connection of colors to reality. However, not everything is based on logic and fact - faith plays a major role onto many things people does in their life. It is not only colors that people associates (and thinks influences) the reality. Ritual words, symbols, amulets, certain historical and natural places, etc are used to denote a supernatural/spiritual connection with these to the reality as well, from which colors had taken the first step.

I think its origin was more ancient nature based religions (I'm not quite sure, but isn't the Abrahamic religions against such superstitions?). Here is what I found from Every Thing Under The Moon (have taken the liberty to shorten the actual article; visit the link to read the full one):

COLOR ASSOCIATIONS AND SYMBOLS
RED
Signifies: Strength, health, vigor, lust, danger.
ORANGE
Signifies: Encouragement, adaptability, stimulation, attraction, plenty, kindness.
YELLOW
Signifies: Knowledge, learning, concentration, persuasion, charm, confidence, jealousy, joy, comfort.
GREEN
Signifies: Finances, fertility, luck, success energy, charity, growth rejuvenation, ambition, counteract greed and jealousy, plants kingdom including herbal healing.
BLUE
Signifies: Tranquility, understanding, patience, health, truth, devotion, sincerity, honor, loyalty, peace, wisdom, protection during sleep, astral projection.
VIOLET/PURPLE
Signifies: Power, piety, sanctity, sentimentality, tension, sadness amplification of other energies, wisdom, high ideals, spiritual protection and healing, psychic ability, protective energy.
BLACK
Signifies: Negation without reflecting, unlocking when stuck, banishing evil or negativity.
WHITE
Signifies: Purity, consecration, meditation, divination, exorcism, the full moon, healing, peace, spiritual strength.
(May be substituted for any other color.)
GRAY
Signifies: Balance, neutrality, used in erasing, canceling, neutralizing, and return to the universe without repercussion destructive energies.
BROWN
Signifies: The Earth, grounding, trees, concentration, telepathy, spells to locate lost objects, protection of the familiars, pets, and animals.

SILVER
Signifies: Purity, the moon, treasure, values, female energy, the unconscious mind.
GOLD
Signifies: The sun, male energy, wealth, financial

I am of the opinion that the connection is more spiritual than physical in nature. White is deprived of any colors (figuratively), hence it effects people the least compared with any other colors - especially the bright ones - therefore people may connect it with divine peacefulness. Similarly, golden is a bright color, hence people may connect it with earthly happiness. Red an attractive color, the color of ones blood, hence people connects it with love. (The wearing of red dress has got more to do with culture than any of these; per my knowledge, Christians wear white dress).

Personally I am not color conscious. I don't even bother about what dress I am wearing. As long as I am fully clothed, it's okay with me (though I tend to avoid way too girly color like pink, bright red, orange, etc 😆).

Well RE topic-

If wearing black on a happy occasion makes majority of people unhappy(for whatever reasons), then you get the reason as to why it should not be worn right?😉

My fav colour is black..its powerful.
Many Goths, emo also dwell on black more, Black is the Absence of all coulour. Devoid of light
Happy occasion such as marraige? obviously we want to celebrate it in a colourful manner..but loads of people wear black on happy occassions such as parties and weddings too etc...I wear black majority of the time, and i would love wear a black saree one day..😍...i would look soo sexy 😆.
Black is quite a sacred colour as well, black thread, protecting yourself from ''nazar'' 😆
I wonder if majority of people are depressed at work, cos their uniform is black.

^ Black is my favorite color, too, following red. I like black for the mysterious aura it has and spreads, and I like red for it feels like blood!

Actually ghostly/gothic things inspire/interest me a lot. That is why crow is my favorite bird. 😆

^ Yeah, cool colors interest me as well! Actually I think every color has its own gravity (excluding yellow, should I say. 😆 Nah, come to think of it I love looking at fire - which consists mostly of yellow along with orange, and I also like sunlight). Though, I do not think blue can be classed as a 'cool' color (not the dark blue at least; sky blue...okay). White and silver amazes me the most, when it comes down to the subject of cool color (and thanks for the term; I was thinking of what term to use despite of getting anything).
