OK, I am sitting here watching Betiyaan in the US. We're up to the episode where Akash takes Gauri to a club. Akash goes to 'rescue" Payal from those men who are harassing her. What rubbish is this? The same Akash who asked all of his goonish friends to molest Gauri and possibly gang rape her? They are just showing this BS to redeem him and make him seem like he is fundamentally good. Bull. There is nothing "good" or redeeming about his character and to suggest otherwise is an outrage. I am just dying to see how they manage to make Akash "good," therefore suggesting that men like him will change if you just sit quietly and tolerate all of his disgusting behavior.

Gauri is such a noodlehead. Why did she have to stay there? Couldn't she catch a cab and go back to her hotel? She couldn't possibly look more foolish standing in the middle fo that club with her full sleeve sari and heavy jewelry--watching "helplessly" while her marvelous husband goes off with some other girl and telling her he loves her. I am way past the point of feeling sorry for her (though I guess I never really did to begin wtih, since she was dumb enough to marry a SOB like him).

I do not see what Gauri stands to gain from continuing this sham marriage.

Now switching gears: If I have to see Jhanvi reaching slowly towards that non-functional lock one more time, or hear her asking the same questions to the same people again, I will be forced to start throwing tomatoes at my television.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw that episode!!!!! The honeymoon travel tickets would have to be return tickets....she could've just gone back to Devyani.
I don't feel bad for her either.......she deserves it because she lets it happen to her. If she were to at least try to stand up for herself, I would commiserate with her, but she mutely suffers it.

the whole track.............Jhanvi track and Gauri track is utterly stupid .
Jhanvi is purposefully trying to make trouble by locking horns with a mad bull who is clearly abusive and needs to be locked up . She has options , she chooses not to exercise them and is itching to handle a volcanic abusive situation on her own .............a foolhardy , dangerous thing to do .
Gauri dresses so abominably that no man wud look at her and all women wud stare at her with raised eyebrows . Sleeves till the elbows and Banarsi wedding saris with gold flowers or peacocks .........in a discotheque or on her honeymoon in the tropical climate of India is unbelievable . Honestly no one in India dresses like this nowadays . Even our slum Kaamwaalis have a nice fashion sense . They cud give Gauri a few lessons saying ' Bai , yeh kya Gai Bail ki tarah pehena hai aapne ?' Gauri shud be entered in a biull and cow race held in remote rural India where they bedeck their cattle before entering the race .
Who wears blouses till elbows and zari saris at all occasions ? Is there sum sense of propriety or no ? Why wudnt Akash be really angry with this specimen ? She had been to an office , she had seen girls working there ..........who dressed like this and who told her that women dress like this ..............does her own mother in law dress this way ? Its not the specs and the lisp , its the atrocious fancy dress ball that she and Jhanvi r doing that is extremely cumbersome to our eyes as viewers ebvery night .
I wont even start on their policy of taking shit till they r neck deep in it and then burning men by professing to be godesses..........a modus operandi that has become so tiresome that it makes me wonder if the writers have some weird , sick , imagination . Like a stuck record . Or else why would they imagine such dresses on GAuri and Jhanvi [ who btw clanks when she walks ] and why wud they imagine punishments like chaining women r given to an industrialist's wife and he still keeps quiet ??????

I was thinking yesterday how does Jhanvi surreptitiously follow her FIL without clanking and jingling around. Maybe that is why he makes his bahus dress this way. So he can hear their every move.

You know honestly I am getting tired of this trend of showing discos as symbolism for debauchery and immorality. Not everyone who wears western clothing, goes to nightclubs, and drinks alcohol is a bad and immoral person.

This vision of "Indianness" that this creative team have contrived has no basis in reality. Fine if Gauri doesn't want to wear jeans or western attire. That is perfectly OK. Lots of Indian women choose to stick to Indian clothes, but they are MODERN and APPROPRIATE. Even within the world of Indian clothing there are MANY other options other than what she is wearing--even if she wanted to continue wearing saris she could do so without adorning herself like a Christmas tree. It looks inappropriate no matter where she is and make her look like she is about 200 years old.

In some ways I do not blame Akash, big jerk as he is. His mother is more stylish and youthful than Gauri. It would be like sleeping with his grandmother! Nauseating.

No No rainabow , even our grandmothers had a sense of propriety , let us please give them some credit . 😊 U know , i personally feel that it is a myth to suppose that our grandmas dressed so idiotically . The handful specimens of that age that I saw while growing up in my visits to rural areas wore saris appropriate to the weather ...........cotton saris in summers and soft , hand washed saris at home , and dressed in zari saris only when they went out for weddings . My grandma's pearl nose ring came out only when she sat for poojas alongside my grandfather . The moment poojas were over , the nose ring wud be removed and kept in its box . Wearing that nose ring was cumbersome and it was a kind of religious necessity in those day to wear it during a pooja . The moment the festivity was over , women wud immediately change their heavy saris , remove their jewellery and wear soft handwashed saris , with just simple gold bangles on heir wrists and mangalsutras around hir necks . Their sense of propriety was amazing , infact if sumone overdressed for a simple occasion hy wud ask sarcastically if he was a dulha or bridegroom and was he gonna get married in a few hours . Why r u bedecked like a bull about to enter a race , our grandmas wud ask .................I have heard hese taunts with my own ears so many times . Comparing grandmas with Gauri is not fair to them . Gauri is as Gauri is coz she is , as u have put it so rightly , from Planet Betiyaan .😆
Also , I have seen many 'immoral ' women looking perfctly angelic and pious , with braids , kumkum and saris , cheating on their husbands and having quiet affairs behind his back that r never detected . All this stereotyping in serials is hogwash . Indian clothes can be so modern and appealing and decent fashionwise ........just look at some boutiques Gauri ! But no , They have taken a wow to show Indians as stupid .

Oh I didn't mean my granny or anyone else's granny! I just meant she wears those old fashioned half-sleeve and full-sleeve saris. My apologies to the grannies of the world. In her old age, my granny wears simple sundresses as they are easiest and most comfortable for her. I guess since she is in western attire, she must be a real sinner.

Thank you for reminding me of Planet Betiyaan. I had forgotten this show cannot possibly take place on Earth. Now everything makes sense again.
