What's SRK doing with two green creatures who look as though they've come from a sci-fi movie?

Well, the two green 'creatures' are Chouw and Mouw. And they are part of the revamp of the logo of Videocon, one of India's foremost electronics brands.

The trademark V of the logo has undergone a 'green' change. Those of you who watch TV would have already seen the commercial — that of two green characters intermingling to ultimately form the V of Videocon. But though the animated clip looks kinda cute, creating it was not so simple, if the brain behind the clip, adman Prasoon Joshi, is to be believed.

"What we have done is divide the logo into two units, and make characters out of them — called Chouw and Mouw. Chouw is the kind-hearted one and Mouw the more mischievous one. And together, they send out the message that if you put your heart and mind together, anything can be achieved," says Prasoon.
But why did the brand feel the need for the change? Was Prasoon clued in to that? Says Prasoon, "The logo needed more energy. So we energised it by giving it a more modern look. Green is the colour of the future. The logo also has a liquefied, fluid-like feel to it. It gives the feeling that the company is on the move and can take any shape and form."

And the unveiling of the new logo was also done in style — though not with much fanfare. Chouw and Mouw were flown all the way to San Francisco, because the Videocon brand ambassador, Shah Rukh Khan, was there — shooting for Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan. And there, on an abandoned petrol pump, a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, King Khan unveiled the new logo with just the crew members on the sets, and Chouw and Mouw watching him. Khan, who was pretty touched by the whole effort, said, "My best wishes to Chouw and Mouw. As an actor, I continuously try and reinvent myself to stay connected with my audience. I am delighted to be associated with Videocon, a thinking company that is taking this step to underline and further strengthen its relationship with the consumers."

But was SRK involved in the creative process? "He is the brand ambassador and he will be seen in the new campaigns very soon. But for now, the new V is the star," says Prasoon. SRK signs off with, "I am sure Chouw and Mouw will capture millions of hearts and create smiles across the world."

When cartoons went looking for Shah Rukh in San Francisco..

His fan following across the world is anybody's guess. But what came as a surprise was that two cartoon characters roamed the streets of San Francisco looking out for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was shooting in the city.
While shooting there for "My Name Is Khan", Shah Rukh was visited by two green coloured, flubber-like characters Chouw and Mouw who had roamed across the city searching for the actor.

The characters barged into Shah Rukh's van and when they were stopped by the security, they started screaming for the actor who stepped out and surprised the unit by identifying them as his friends from India.

Chouw and Mouw also got him a gift, which was confiscated by the security, who looked at it suspiciously. The gift box contained a switch that Shah Rukh hit to unveil Videocon's green lava-like new logo over the Golden Gate Bridge.

"I am delighted to receive such a wonderful gift from my friends Chouw and Mouw in the form of the new Videocon logo…I am confident, my best friends Chouw and Mouw will be loved by all and they are sure to capture millions of hearts and create smiles across the world. My best wishes to Chouw and Mouw," Shah Rukh said at the location, according to a statement released here Wednesday.

Being the central characters of the new ad campaign, Chouw and Mouw depict positive dimension of change. They are shown in different situations transforming the lives of people. While Chouw is the bigger, giant looking character with a kind and empathetic heart, Mouw is tiny and small but clever and street smart.

If Shah Rukh can't come to India, his brands will follow him wherever he is. Recently, the actor, who is shooting in San Francisco for My Name is Khan (MNIK) had two surprise guests on his sets.

Says a source from the sets, "Two green, cute and cuddly characters Chouw and Mouw tried to barge into SRK's van, which had a signage — Rizwan — SRK's character in MNIK. When they were stopped by the security, they started screaming for Shah Rukh till he stepped out of the van and told the security guys that they were his old friends from India, who came to meet him." He even stepped out and hugged the two."

Suspicious gift

Chouw and Mouw also gave SRK a suspicious-looking object that was initially confiscated by the security guys. There was a switch in the box, which if turned on, emitted green laser lights. "The surprised unit members later learnt that, SRK had just unveiled the new logo of the brand he endorses in a very unique manner." Earlier that day, Chow and Mouw roamed the streets of San Francisco through the Golden Gate, heritage homes and cable cars.

Convincing Karan

Khan took Chouw and Mouw inside the shooting area and introduced them to his unit members, including friend and director, Karan Johar.

Shah Rukh says, "Initially Karan wasn't in favour of allowing my two new buddies to enter the sets of My Name Is Khan. He's very strict about anybody breaking his concentration. I wanted to introduce them, but he was in no mood to relent. Finally, Karan was convinced when he saw them during the lunch break. They are too cute. Now Karan constantly plays with Chouw and Mouw while we are waiting for him on the sets."

Meanwhile Karan adds, "Trust Shah Rukh to drive me crazy the whole day saying that he would introduce me to his new pals from India. And I thought 'Oh my God, must be one of those hardcore fans who want to hang around on the sets all day. Shah Rukh has done this in the past and he knows I get irritated, so he plays such pranks. I was amused to see Chouw and Mouw. They are like two little soft toys!"

What are they?

Chouw and Mouw are two green flubber-like characters representing the logo of an electronics brand. The two will attempt to bring about positive change, but will finally succeed only when they come together. Both characters have personality traits quite opposite to each other. The bigger one, Chouw, is gentle, slow, kind, strong and silent the smaller one, Mouw, is funny, mischievous, peculiar and quick-witted.
