Kareena Kapoor on kisses, bikinis, catfights and love—past and present
Let's talk about your forthcoming film, Kambakkht Ishq. Do you think love is like that?
The word kambakkht can be interpreted in many ways. It can be an expression of pain, or desperation or exasperation. In the film, it's used in a more fun manner. For a passionate girl like me, love is intense and deep. I don't take it lightly. Fun is an important aspect of love but it's the intensity that stands the test of time.
What did you and Sylvester Stallone talk about while shooting for the film?
He was very curious about India and asked questions about our different cuisines and culture. He wanted to know about our film industry and how we make so many movies every year. He was keen to see my films. I was supposed to give him the DVD of Jab We Met but I didn't have time. I'll do that soon though. Since he has so many tattoos, he was connecting with Saif on that level.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that one day I'd be acting with Sylvester Stallone. Young guys have grown up on his films, his Rocky posters were on walls everywhere. Akshay, a huge Sly fan, was very excited to do action scenes with him.
You and Akshay have worked in seven films. What is the secret of your chemistry?
Though we've worked in many films, our chemistry will really come across only in Kambakkht Ishq. Akshay and I have great history; he gave his first shot as an actor in front of me for Deedar where he was paired with Lolo.
I was in my pigtails then. Akshay is a part of my family and I love him intensely. We're comfortable with each other which worked well in this film where we are constantly fighting with each other.
How did the song Bebo mein bebo come about?
I had no idea my producer, Sajid Nadiadwala and director, Sabir Khan, were planning this. They told me they'd be giving me a big song for my shows and that it'd be a great present for me. Two days before the shoot, they made me listen to the song and I was rendered speechless with their gesture. I think I'll be dancing to Bebo mein bebo all my life. (typical! I knew this was gonna happen!)
Did Saif really fly off the handle when you gave Stallone a peck on the cheek as was reported?
No ya. You know Saif na? It's all rubbish. Saif met Stallone and they really bonded. Nothing of this sort ever happened.
And is it true that you've decided never to wear a bikini on screen again since your mom, Babita, doesn't approve?
This is another piece of rubbish being circulated. If a scene demands me to jump into the water, you can't expect me to wear a jeans and a top or a salwar kameez. I'm tired of giving explanations about what I wear or don't wear, about whether I'm size zero or plump. Enough, already.
Have you forgiven Imtiaz Ali for not signing you on for Love Aaj Kal?
(Laughs) I could say that publicly to him on an award function stage because that's the kind of relationship I share with Imtiaz. I felt it at that moment and I said it. After seeing Love Aaj Kal though, I feel only Deepika and Saif could have done these roles.
What are the movies that Saif likes you most in?
He'd be the best to answer this but I think it'll be Omkara and Jab We Met. Saif doesn't watch too many Hindi movies. I don't think he watches his own films.
What's it like working with Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots?
Well, the journey is still on. It's a dream come true to work with Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani. It's a once-in-a-lifetime combination and I'm happy to be a part of this special film.
Recently, you and Saif went on record to say you felt our ex-boyfriend, Shahid Kapur, was using you both for publicity and that you wished he would move on.
This whole issue has been blown out of proportion. I shared some wonderful moments with Shahid and both Saif and I wish him well. Saif respects my past but there are times when we get upset with all that is written or insinuated about us. I'll always cherish my memories with Shahid but that chapter of my life is over and I've turned the page. I hope the media does that as well. My heart is clean.
Are all those reports of catfights with Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra true?
I'm extremely fond of Katrina. She's always been very nice to me. Ditto with PC who is very friendly whenever we meet on social occasions. I don't know how and why this media war between us is being reported. There has never been an issue with both of them, or with Ash (Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan).
Everyone is here to work and everyone is happy in her own zone. In the last three years, I took a conscious decision to not compete with any other heroine. I only compete with myself and want to raise my own bar.
I've stopped reading newspapers and watching TV channels because I don't want to be a part of all this. I'm a very passionate and focused girl and I've a life to live. I don't care what the gossip mills are churning out. I travel the world when I'm not working. I don't care who is doing what

I am pretty impressed with these answers. She didnt fly off the handle about her "saifuuuu", and she didnt say anything too ridiculous...wow.
