Ahh, finally, I've been looking for a good book to read. I don't like reading online, so will have to find a copy soon and get back to you. As always, excellent thoughts.

Why do we believe what we believe? What is the basis of faith?
We believe in somethings because through years of learning and due to heredity some lessons become hard coded such that those lessons become our beliefs that in turn become our fundamental nature.

Moreover, I remember a famous question from a story: "what can change the nature of man? with an apparent answer that anything that one believes in can change the nature of man." That looks correct to me because we don't change unless our core beliefs change.

....

Does the soul exist? Do molecules, atoms and quarks have life?
If every living thing is made of lifeless particles where does life come from?

The problem is that there may not be a correct definition of "a living thing". There is only a laundry list of requirements with some man made assumptions such as: something that moves, gives birth..etc. , but we might always find an exception to this list. Hence, I cant say that I know the difference between what is living and what is non living. :p I would prefer to say that everything is alive in someway.

Let's take it to extremes how about the idea of Earth as a superorganism? Now let's take it even further: what if the entire universe is a superorganism? 😉

The whole cosmos makes up God - just that God transcends even that. Panentheism. 😛

earth as a superorganism is quite possible actually. It breathes thru its trees , has rivers & streams for circulation & even an atmosphere akin to the aura of a living organism. LOL Infact even solar system resemble an atomic structure
