Ramu better Rann!
Ram Gopal Varma is back in the news with yet another controversy, the song Jana Gana Mana from his film Rann is up for hearing today and the lyricist and director are likely to be convicted if found guilty tampering with the national anthem.
On May 8th the censor board had asked for deletion of the 'objectionable references' in the song and even banned them from promoting it. But Ramu went ahead and tightened the noose around his neck by moving to the Supreme Court for violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression. Still the judges weren't impressed and insisted that the national anthem had been tinkered with and no one had the right to do so.
Amar Mohile, the music director of the film was taken aback by the news and said, "I'm really sad, we worked very hard on the song and it will be a great loss of the audiences if the song is removed from the film. The music director went on to speak about the need of the song, "The lyrics are very situational and are the crux of the film's message. The film in itself relates to the lyrics of the song. Even the music that I composed is in tune with the words and the feel of it."
Ram Gopal Varma had even said at the unveiling of the first look of Rann, "I have not tinkered with the national anthem. Tinkering would be if I would have shown it in bad light. I haven't done anything of this sort. The Rann title track talks about the disputes in the country, and had no intentions to ridicule anything."
