Nach Baliye ends on thrilling note..
for :
Prime time television last night was strictly restricted to the final round of Star One's Rs. 50 lakh-award winning dance programme, Nach Baliye. The Maharashtrian couple and actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar danced away with the prize, polling a lot of votes from all over the state, over second-best couple Manish and Poonam Goyal of Delhi.
The programme that began at 9 p.m. went on till past midnight before the winners were finally announced at the end of much suspense, with the Pilgaonkars having garnered 73 per cent votes. To viewers, who stayed glued to their television sets till the last, the competition seemed pretty close and could have gone either way.
Supriya explained what gave her and Sachin the edge over Poonam and Manish in the final, "I think the chemistry Sachin and I share in our personal lives came through in our performances. We were in better sync than the other contestants."
The nine-week long and closely contested dance competition ended on a happy note and there was no acrimony as the Goyals announced, "We are not losers. Both of us put up a tough fight. There's nothing to feel bad about."
Mumbai, naturally, went to bed on a proud and happy note after the song and dance extravaganza drew to its thrilling finale in the early morning. The fact that Sachin and Supriya have announced their intention to spend much of the Rs. 50 lakh prize money on their daughter, Shriya's education, also went down well with Mumbaikars.
Most citizens who watched the programme and voted for the city couple, said this was the next best honour for somebody from Mumbai in the entertainment business after Dharavi boy Abhijeet Sawant won the Indian Idol contest last year.
Sachin and Supriya's choreographers won the Best Choreography Award in the reality show, the prize money of which was Rs. 20 lakh.
Special mention must also be made of the choice of music for the final. The couples put their best feet forward for the song Kisme Kitna Hai Dum, which was even appreciated by show jurists Malaika Arora, Saroj Khan and Farhan Akhtar. Earlier, while Supriya danced for the number Laila O Laila, Poonam danced for Ye Mera Dil Pyaar Kya Diwaana. And Sachin for Aaa Mile Pyaar Mehfil Mein Tere and Manish for Duniya Mein Logon Ko.
