She's the kind of girl who runs free, through the streets, bounding with life. The school bell rings and Pavni dashes through the corridors to the training grounds where four boys - Tanmay (TB), Paaji, Siddhu and Rizvi are practicing under their coach. Other students cheer. These boys are preparing for an inter-school running competition at Shimla. Their first ever. TB has diabetes and faints after completing the race. The coach tells Principal Ravikant Dikshit that insulin injections are a must for TB. He's among the best runners in Adarsh School. Meanwhile, Pavni too, wants to go to Shimla to cheer for these boys, but the Principal rebukes her and tells her to check with her family.
A despondent Pavni heads home. On the way her best buddies Vigya and Sarju ask her about the essay. Their easy banter ends abruptly as they enter Sarju's father's Caf where they see four boys from the upmarket Elite school sitting, shouting rudely at Sarju's father. They begin to bully Sarju too. This foursome of Rambo, Shorty, Googly and Don is rather vicious. They pride themselves on being champion athletes. Pavni stops them from hurting Sarju and just then Tej, the local MLA's son arrives. He is the leader of the Elite gang and after apologising to Pavni, takes the gang away in his jeep. He seems to have a liking for her.
At home, Pavni is received by her Dadi and Chandni bua. Dadi is a smart old woman who knows how to deal with people. She urges Pavni to hurry with lunch and start studying for her scholarship exam, which is due the next day. Principal Ravikant comes home and Pavni once again asks him for permission to go to cheer the boys. The father grudgingly asks Dadi, who at the mere mention of sports flares up and warns Pavni not to ever mention running again. Clearly, for the otherwise loving Dadi, sports is a big taboo. And for some unexplained reason, so is Pavni's dead mother's name. There is some mystery behind all this, for sure.
The next day, before setting off for Shimla, the four Adarsh boys come to seek the Principal's blessings. Inadvertently TB drops his insulin injections. Which Pavni happens to find on her way to her NTSC exams! Without thinking twice, she makes a run for the railway station. On reaching there, she sees that the train has left. She starts chasing. The train gathers speed. Pavni tries hard to catch up. Inside the train, the four boys and coach get excited about the race. Suddenly, TB starts palpitating. The boys and coach realize that his medicine packet is nowhere to be found! Pavni runs the run of her life… through the rough terrain, amidst trees, down the steep slopes, over the puddles, taking shortcuts while the train zigzags its way forward.
As TB's condition deteriorates, she appears in front of the train, a few hundred meters away, waving her dupatta to stop the train. As the train slows, a Photographer peeps out, sees Pavni standing and takes a picture. As the driver brings the train to a halt, Pavni runs, shouting the name of her classmates. She hands over the medicines to the coach just in the nick of time. All the passengers proudly declare Pavni as the PALAMPUR EXPRESS.
