Gautam Sharma to King Dushyanta
Gautam Sharma will be playing Dushyanta in the show based on Shakuntala. Gautam is a former model and for the first time he is playing a lead in any costume drama.
"I have done a small character in Grihasthi before this. I was opposite one of the four daughters of the family. That character was a cameo. After that I knew someone from Sagar Arts (producers of Shakuntala)âŚthat person introduced me to them. I gave a look test and they called me and told me that they are interested in taking me for this role," explains Gautam.
Gautam says he had many reasons to say yes to the show.
"First of all it is on a channel (Star One) which is for the youth. Then even though it is a costume drama, I did not think it is risky as it has been made in a very contemporary way. Also I do not feel that I will get typecast via this role. This is nice love story and younger audiences will surely be able to relate to it. Earlier I played a family boy and this is completely different from that."
"I have heard of this epic before so I was aware about it. But after accepting the role I started reading the book. I also started working out on my look. I will be wearing bright clothes with fewer ornaments. I have learnt horse riding for about a month. My look will not be fashionable though. Today's heroes believe in flaunting their abs and all but my look will be quite lean. I have studied Dushyanta's personalityâŚhe was a bold and courageous king with a very soft heart," adds Sharma.
Guatam's entry will take place in the show after a couple of weeks." They have done a lot of detailing for this show. The place which they have created for the king⌠it is so real that you will never believe that it is a set of any show. It is such a pretty set that we do not feel like coming off it. They have created a huge waterfall and a nice ashram for Shakuntala," he says.
Gautam came to Mumbai two years back to participate in the Grasim Mr.India contest. But sadly didn't make it in the top ten. He then returned back to Bangalore to complete his education. He graduated from St. Joseph College and started doing commercials like Emami Fair and Handsome, Orbit, Coke and many others before turning his attention to tele serials.
