A blunder Called 9x- Crores down the drain! 11/03/2009 | GR8! A blunder Called 9x- Crores down the drain!
All of last month, we have been inundated with calls complaining of unpaid dues from the GEC 9X. We thought it in everybody's interest to look into the matter. And here's what we found out...
NOVEMBER 5, 2007 – LAUNCH OF INX MEDIA'S GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL - 9X
? Peter Mukherjea, the ex-CEO of the interminable No. 1 GEC channel Star Plus, was back with a bang along with wife Indrani Mukherjea as promoters in INX Media. ? The INX Network launched three channels – NewsX (24-hour news channel), 9XM (music channel) and 9X (GEC), which promised to provide world-class fiction and non-fiction programming as also the latest Bollywood films. ? To achieve this, it roped in 11 leading production houses to create content for the channel – Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, Siddharth Basu's Synergy Communications, Dheeraj Kumar's Creative Eye, Endemol India, Anuradha Prasad's BAG Films, Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia's Hats Off Productions, Nikhil and Niret Alva's Miditech, Wizcraft International, Binaifer Kohli's Edit II Productions, Smriti Irani's Ugreya Entertainment and Yash Patnaik's Beyond Dreams Entertainment.
Interesting content, dramatic reality shows, A-list actors, big production houses and a free flow of funds – it had it all! There were huge expectations and hype surrounding the apparent new big thing of television called 9X. It was a full-proof plan for yet another successful 'bookmark' channel such as our all time favourites - Star, Sony and Zee.
But every plan has its flaws, and this one was no exception! In fact, it had just too many, due to which 9X is facing the consequences now, which are some really … really big bucks! Post 1+ year, 9X can well be called a sinking ship...
So, let's reframe that sentence once again...
NOVEMBER 5, 2007 - THE MOST EXPENSIVE LAUNCH - 9X
Post television strikes, repeat telecasts yet on-air?
The nation was recently witness to the 10-day blackout on television, during which period channels chose to showcase repeat telecasts of their programmes. But once the issue was resolved, all the channels were back, with new episodes, fresh content and loads of exciting twists and turns to their shows. All except 9X! The channel has been telecasting only reruns and has showcased no fresh content ever since the blackout was called off.
9X followers may be questioning the reason for such a move by the channel. Well, it's simple. The reason is money, or rather, the lack of it!
