hey every1 im actually new 2 shakuntala forum.......
i wanted 2 share d ORIGINAL story of Shakuntala...................in dis serial dey hav dramatised it to a very big extent........so this is d real one
Sage Vishwamitra had been meditating in d Himalayas fr a looong time nd had grown very powerful. The Gods feared that if he grew more powerful he would cause a lot of destruction.
To prevent this they sent the fairy Menaka down to earth to distract Vishwamitra.
Falling to this trap Vishwamitra was enchanted by Menaka's beauty nd soon fell in love with her. She too forgetting her mission fell in love with him.
When Shakuntala was born, Menaka returned to heaven without turning back. Shakuntala grew up in the Ashram and when she grew up was known for her unearthly beauty.
One day, when King Dushant set out hunting in the forest he reached the Ashram and met the beautiful Shakuntala. They fell in love with each other. As a token of their love Dushant gave Shakuntala a ring. Promising to return Dushant left for his kingdom.
Now Shakuntala could think of nothing bt Dushant and used to day dream. Once when the sage asked her to do something for him she didnt respond (bcuz she was dreaming of Dushant). In his anger, the sage cursed Shakunltala dat whomever she was thinking of would forget her very existence.
Overcome with grief, Shakuntala begged for pardon. Feeling pity for the girl the sage altered his curse saying that the person would remember her only when she showed him something which they were linked with.
Knowing that the ring was the only thing she had, Shakuntala set out for Dushant's palace. But, unfortunately on the way, when Shakuntala was sailing the ring slipped off her finger nd fell into the ocean. After losing all hopes Shakuntala reached Dushant's palace . But, true to the curse he didn't remember her. But luckily for Shakuntala, a fisherman had found her ring in a fish's stomach. On seeing this ring, Dushant now remembered everything that had transpired and so accepted Shakuntala.
And they lived happily ever after.
