The year Kickstarts: The lucky three come together (Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra and SRK)

The year kick started with the winning trio coming together for their film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Aditya Chopra was to direct Shah Rukh Khan yet again after DDLJ – a film that became a love epic. But who was to be the leading lady? The quest was yet to begin!

February 11: Sanjay Dutt weds Manyataa

Sanjubaba tied the knot yet again. This time with item girl Manyata. But hey, not all marriages are made in heaven…Sanjay Dutt had to face a lot of problems, mostly legal to make this marriage happen. Reports about Manyata still being married rocked their wedding and after much ado, the couple finally ended up together and live happily for the rest of the year!

February 14: Jodhaa Akbar premiere

It was valentine's day and Aishwarya's darling hubby Abhishek Bachchan was not by her side. The first big film of the year, Jodhaa Akbar premiere had to be star studded but leading lady was all alone. The gossip mills went buzzing but the Junior B finally saved the day by making a very late entry and being with his wife on lovers' day!

February 25: 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards

Guess why Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will always remember this award ceremony…it's not only because they both won the best debutant award but also finally proclaimed their love for each other and became the newest Bolly couple on the block.

The award ceremony will also be remembered by many including Sanjay Leela Bhansali who would never ever wear, see or talk about the colour 'blue' in his life. Saif and SRK made fun of almost everyone but paid a special notorious tribute to Bhansali's 'blues' while hosting the show!

April 11: U, Me Aur Hum released

Ajay Devgan was now a director. His home production with wife Kajol, U, Me Aur Hum marked his directorial debut and also made a mark at the BO.

April 2008: Indian Premier League

If you thought IPL was cricket, think again! It was business, pleasure, gossip fodder and much more. SRK had a team, Preity Zinta has Yuvraj Singh, Vijay Mallya had Dravid and Katrina Kaif…the list is almost never ending. But IPL proved one thing – cricket can be more than just a sport, it can be all round entertainment!

April 24: Tashan released!

Yash Raj Films, Kareena's size zero figure, her bikinis, her paring with real life beau Saif, immense publicity…nothing could save Tashan from bombing at the box office. YRF suffered a heart attack. Kareena's size zero became a rage but her bikinis failed to draw in crowds. Her chemistry (or the lack of it) with Saif sprang doubts about their relationship in the minds of many. And the film went on to become an example for 'what not to make in Bollywood' for posterity!

May 9: Jimmy released

Mithunda's son Mimoh Chakraborty's first film Jimmy released, finally. But mostly it went unnoticed. Though Madhuri Dixit Nene had come down for her good friend's son's debut premiere and Salman Khan had trained the young boy and many other industry bigwigs wished the very best for this fat jiggly little thing, the film went on to become a disaster. So much so that later films of Mimoh were either delayed or the producers simply started losing sleep over them.

May 14-25: Cannes 2008

For years now, India's one major contribution to Cannes has been Aishwarya Rai. This year was no different. Except for the fact that Mrs Ash almost turned Cannes into a family vacation. Husband Abhishek was obviously in tow. And very soon papa and ma-in-law Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan joined them both. What's more, even good family friend Amar Singh tagged along!

July 4: Harman's Love Story 2050 VS Imran's Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na

Two debutantes, two very different films and ONE big fight – July 4 saw the biggest filmi clash of the year when Aamir's nephew Imran's debut film and Priyanka Chopra's loverboy Harman Baweja's fims met at the BO. While Harman claimed Aamir was out to sabotage his film, Aamir actually went out and did it. The rumour mills started working overtime. And finally on Judgement day, while Imran's low budget film made the boy a star, Harman's futuristic film made his future as an actor a shade darker.

July 17: Katrina Kaif's birthday party at Olive

It was supposed to be a fun party. But it ended up being just the opposite. Good friends SRK and Salman fought😭and what followed was history…

a) The real Bollywood gang war started
b) Stars started aligning themselves with one or the other star
c) Katrina cried her eyes out
d) The big Kat-Sallu fallout started sometime now

July 18: The Unforgettable World Tour

The Bachchans' big world tour which after much controversy finally kick started at Toronto on July 18 was after all not what it was made out to be. And we doubt if many of us remembered it by the end of the year.

(a readers comment @bold-I agree 100%):The unforgettable tour was a massive success. Mind it!!!!!
and plzz, why don't you mention how SRK's so called bigger and best temptation reloaded was reduced to a one stage performance in a measly city like Dubai, which is all Indians almost.)

August 15: Bachna Ae Haseeno released

Ranbir had worn a towel in his first film. In his second, he again showed off his well toned torso and abs. Later on with the release of Dostana, we saw John Abraham wearing almost nothing. And finally, with Ghajini, came Aamir's eight pack abs. Bollywood seemed to be wanting men shedding clothes more than women shedding theirs.

Move over size zero, here come the eight packs!

August 29: Rock On released

Farhan Akhtar became a star. Arjun Rampal became the latest drool boy. And Bollywood film music saw a turn for the good. Rock music or contemporary music became a hit among the Indian cine-goers. And thank god, Abhishek Kapoor finally got the much required hit as a director!

September: The Jaya Bachchan-Raj Thackeray fight

Jaya Bachchan at the Drona music launch said she would talk in Hindi as she was from UP and she was more comfortable in that language. Raj Thackeray somehow did not like that. And the huge fight began. He asked north Indians to leave the city of Mumbai because the city 'belonged' to Maharashtrians. Apologies were issued, threats were given too. But Raj was not happy. He later had a problem with SRK as well. But thankfully for the film industry neither the Bachchans nor SRK or any other north Indian had to move out.

October 2: Drona premiere

SRK graced the Bachchan's house party – namely the Drona premiere. And his kids loved the movie too. Well, the audience differed in their opinion and Drona became a big budget BO disaster.

October 17: Karzzzz released

Himesh Reshammiya lost his chest hair and cap and gained some hair (magically or medically we'll never know) on his head. With 19 songs interspersed with borrowed storyline, Karzzzz made the original Rishi Kapoor starrer more popular than it probably was. As for those who actually ended up watching the remake, they went asleep before you could say Karzzzz only to wake up to Himesh's nasal serenading.

November 2: SRK's birthday

King Khan celebrated his birthday in style this year. He not only did his usual round of waving to his fans from his terrace but also cut a cake with the media at the Yash Raj Studios to publicise his film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

It was also the day when Salman's long time enemy Vivek Oberoi joined the SRK gang by gracing his birthday party.

November 5: BR Chopra passes away

The BR Films master, filmmaker BR Chopra passed away on this day. Apart from his entire family, including Yash Chopra, Uday Chopra and Ravi Chopra almost the entire film industry came to play their tribute at his funeral.

November 17: Yuvvraaj music success party

The mood should have been light and celebratory. Well, it wasn't. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif had this ongoing cold war which made the air thick with tension. Sallu looked like he'd love to hit her (this time publicly), Katrina looked tired and everybody else looked anywhere but at this two.

November 22: Bigg Boss 2 Jumbo finale

If Bigg Boss 2 was full of controversies, the season finale, took 'being controversial' to the next level. Shilpa Shetty and Akshay Kumar were to face each other for the first time after the death of their much torrid affair. Fireworks were expected. Though mostly, we were disappointed.

November 30: Terror tourism

RGV soon after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks went to visit the attacked site (Taj) along with CM Vilasrao Deshmukh and his son Riteish giving rise to a lot of controversy. Vilasrao Deshmukh had to finally resign because of this.

December 19: SRK unveils Anushka

For the first time in Bollywood history, a female lead, a newcomer was unveiled a week after the film released. Shah Rukh Khan at a press conference accompanied his leading lady Anushka Sharma from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Many said it was to sabotage a little bit of Aamir's Ghajini marketing tactics. However…

December 25: Ghajini premiere

Aamir Khan had invited the industry veterans to the premiere of his film Ghajini. Among the many invited was the much elusive Aditya Chopra who was finally captured on camera after many long years.
