Akki explains why Aamir deserved the award more

At the recent Star Screen Awards show, apart from the Ashutosh Gowarikar, Sajid-Farah Khan spat, Akshay Kumar not accepting the Most Popular Actor of the Year Award had everyone gobsmacked. Akki's reasons for not accepting the award also got the film industry talking as he said Aamir Khan deserved the gong for Ghajini, not him! His own wife Twinkle look startled. "Hey, just because we are married doesn't mean we have to think alike all the time," says Akshay. "But the bottom line is she will always stand by my decision and me by hers," he adds.
Since Aamir and Akki are not known to be bosom buddies rumours started doing the rounds that Akki felt slighted for not being given the Best Actor award for Singh is Kingg. Akshay though rubbishes all this talk as he explains, "I am not a petty man and I don't expect people to be petty about me either." He further clarifies, "I speak from my heart, and I said what I had to. I genuinely felt Aamir Khan deserved that award."
Akshay's show of support for Aamir now has many questioning the authenticity of these awards. What does he have to say about this? "I had no intention of raising any storm or questions. But I will receive an award only when I think I genuinely deserve it. Give me an award when you think I truly deserve it too. I hope I won't upset my fans who vote for me at awards shows, because I respect them for doing that. But for me the bigger award is when they buy tickets to my movies and go to watch them in the theatres and make them hits." In that case he has gotten quite a few awards looking at the hits he's churned out recently barring CC2C.
