Tourism ministry ropes in Aamir for ad campaign
In a massive social awareness campaign launched by the tourism ministry, Khan will warn against littering and defacing monuments
After his rather violent act in Ghajini, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will now hit a polite note by extolling the virtues of "good behaviour" towards tourists. The campaign comes at a time when India has repeatedly hit global headlines over rape and molestation cases of foreign tourists.
In a massive social awareness campaign launched by the tourism ministry, Khan will warn against littering and defacing monuments.
The Internet, print and television campaign was launched on Tuesday by tourism secretary Sujit Banerjee. The ministry has also started a website www.atithi.org.in to receive suggestions from people.
The campaign consists of two television commercials; one on sensitizing against misbehaviour with tourists and the other against garbage and graffiti at tourist sites. The scripts of both the ad films have been written by lyricist Prasoon Joshi and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. According to Banerjee, Khan and the team worked free of cost for the campaign.
The website became operational with Khan seeking participation of the viewers to stand up against misbehaviour with tourists and to stop people from defacing monuments and littering at tourists sites. A face-to-face programme for direct interaction to create awareness amongst the masses will kickstart in Mumbai and Delhi soon. This will be supplemented by posters at strategic points to make the campaign a complete integrated programme which will eventually turn into a mass movement.
