'No God' slogans for city's buses 😛

A mock-up of the atheist poster
The posters could run from January
Bendy-buses with the slogan "There's probably no God" could soon be running on the streets of London. The atheist posters are the idea of the British Humanist Association (BHA) and have been supported by prominent atheist Professor Richard Dawkins. The BHA planned only to raise 5,500, which was to be matched by Professor Dawkins, but it has now raised more than 36,000 of its own accord. It aims to have two sets of 30 buses carrying the signs for four weeks. The complete slogan reads: "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life." As the campaign has raised more than anticipated, it will also have posters on the inside of buses as well. The BHA is also considering extending the campaign to cities including Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. Professor Dawkins said: "Religion is accustomed to getting a free ride - automatic tax breaks, unearned respect and the right not to be offended, the right to brainwash children.
This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think - and thinking is anathema to religion
Professor Richard Dawkins
"Even on the buses, nobody thinks twice when they see a religious slogan plastered across the side. "This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think - and thinking is anathema to religion." Hanne Stinson, chief executive of the BHA, said: "We see so many posters advertising salvation through Jesus or threatening us with eternal damnation, that I feel sure that a bus advert like this will be welcomed as a breath of fresh air. "If it raises a smile as well as making people think, so much the better." But Stephen Green of pressure group Christian Voice said: "Bendy-buses, like atheism, are a danger to the public at large.

"I should be surprised if a quasi-religious advertising campaign like this did not attract graffiti. "People don't like being preached at. Sometimes it does them good, but they still don't like it." However the Methodist Church said it thanked Professor Dawkins for encouraging a "continued interest in God". Spirituality and discipleship officer Rev Jenny Ellis said: "This campaign will be a good thing if it gets people to engage with the deepest questions of life." She added: "Christianity is for people who aren't afraid to think about life and meaning."

The buses with the slogans will run in Westminster from January.

it is up to a person whether they want to believe that God exists or not whatever their beliefs are we are not supposed to force them to believe what we want them to believe.

  1. Is there a GOD? Why do you think so? YES! I don't think faith needs a why. But to answer your question, I think so cause I choose to think so and I have been cultured to think so. It's soothing to know that someone is kind to me, listens to me and answers my prayers.
  2. What is GOD according to you if GOD exists? Sri Guru Granth Sahib JI holds the answer for me. I love the way God is described there. To quote: "One Universal Creator God,The Name Is Truth,Creative Being Personified,No Fear,No Hatred,Image Of The Timeless One,Beyond Birth,Self Existent,By Guru's Grace." (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_in_Sikhism, if you like more information)
  3. Should one LOVE or FEAR GOD or any supreme Power? I can't say for others. I love GOD. I think GOD loves us.
  4. To What extent does GOD have control on your anyone's life. Does it mean that the things which are considered to be havoc by all are not in the control of GOD. I think we have control over our actions, thoughts, etc. We may not have control over our circumstances. I can't see GOD as being controlling... maybe guiding, protecting... like a mentor/teacher. Maybe Karma comes into play here. Myabe havoc is created when we (humankind) upset God's play.
  5. Last but not least, Whom are we accoutable to? GOD / SOCIETY/THYSELF? First to myself, then to my family, to my community, to society, to the world, and then to my GOD. Everything is connected. Without interconnectedness, there is nothing, and with it we have to start with ourselves. It's ridiculous to say that I am accountable to GOD, and yet not take care/be good to yourself, to others around you. GOD "sees" the latter actions, too.
That's my two cents on the issue.☺️

Thamks for posting such a great topic. It gives me a great way to start my day!

01.Is there a GOD? Why do you think so?

Both NO and YES.

NO=i don't believe in a God as religion defines. That is, I don't believe in the God that Christians, Catholic, Islam, Hindu etc. believe in.

YES=i believe that God is the life force that flows through all of us and a sense of being one with the whole world. I know this sounds confusing, so in future I'll simply say that I don't believe in God. But I actually can't call myself an atheist.

Why? Through trial and error. I don't deny God-i simply find it easier to live with what my head and heart agree.

02.What is GOD according to you if GOD exists?
An entity created by man.

03.Should one LOVE or FEAR GOD or any supreme Power?

"This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think - and thinking is anathema to religion."

This sums up my feelings pretty well. As long as you FEAR God, you will make your decisions according to what is SAID to be RIGHT and WRONG in your religion. Though this is ok for children upto a certain age, afterwards WHAT? Shouldn't decisions be taken by KNOWING from your heart that it is Right or wrong, and not because your religion teaches you? Intellect and reasoninng should lead one's judgement, not fear of god.

Love of God is greay if it gives you happiness and comfort. But the minus point is that fear and love go hand in hand.

04.To What extent does GOD have control on your anyone's life.
As much as that 'one' allows God to have.

Does it mean that the things which are considered to be havoc by all are not in the control of GOD.
Logicallly speaking it should be so, shouldn't it? If God is all-powerful and controls all destiny, then shouldn't it be so? That is, if God exists.

05. Last but not least, Whom are we accoutable to? GOD / SOCIETY/THYSELF?
THYSELF and SOCIETY and the WORLD as a whole. As versa says, everything is interconnected.

Have a nice day ahead.
Cheers,
Myth

1. Yes. There is a sense of order and control in the Universe.
2. I disagree with most religions that will try to define God with terms like omniscient, omnibenevolent and omnipotent or refer to God as all knowing/all loving etc. To me God is a concept beyond human comprehension and non descriptive, a power that encompasses everything from absolute nothing to infinity. As a nerd I would say God is like 'the force' and having faith is being 'one with the force'. 'May the force be with you'.
3. You cannot love nor fear an abstract power. All you can do is accept it.
4. Do you play the game or does the game play you? The game is pre-written as in there is a beginning, a middle and the end. But the difficulty, the timing, the moves - every choice to take you from the start to end is yours. Similarly the choices in life are pre-written. It is like an infinite flowchart...but the choices through the flow are all yours.
5. You are accountable only to yourself. A person cannot be truly good in fear of society or God. True goodness comes from an inherent desire to be good and the fear of failing ones own expectations. A person may act according to the so called rules of society or God, but it will be a lie until they are true to themselves.

Is there a GOD? Why do you think so? I think YES! our inner mind is our GOD,We analyze ourselfs many times, many situations, everybody need someone to tell/share everything...so we believe/search the God to relax our mind.
What is GOD according to you if GOD exists? GOD is Love
Should one LOVE or FEAR GOD or any supreme Power? I think most of them fear God or make them fear, or make the law to fear God,I think we dont need any law to love the God. If you love yourself then you can love others also.
To What extent does GOD have control on your anyone's life. Does it mean that the things which are considered to be havoc by all are not in the control of GOD. I think if GOD lives in our heart...He can control us.

Very well put 👏. This mirrors what I think to the "T'. God is there, but as a force. There is something operating which is beyond human comprehension, and life's game is pre written. It's humbling to realise how much of it is already programmed in even before we are born, yet at the end, they are still guided by the choices we make.

They have started these buses in Spain also. This is Athiest Propaganda. Also another thing. As the whole world is going thru crisis maybe they have found one way to ask people to take things easy and enjoy. Hope nothing serious happens.
