Here is a slightly offbeat topic -

I was channel surfing and came across Zee news. There was a feature on women suffering due to neck, back, shoulder pain and injuries due to their heavy purses. Working women complained about carrying around workload.

I have always wondered why do women cling to the traditional purse so passionately? I personally have always used a backpack and still do. It is easy, convenient, keeps your hands free and looks cool. Apparently, it evenly distributes weight so you do not hurt yourself. Well plus to that, I personally love shopping for backpacks. But then it maybe my generation.

One concern I can see women have is that a backpack is very informal. But they do have shoulder bags and those man bags (which I perceive as fashion smart convenient purses) that have a very formal look to them. They sling over the shoulder distributing weight over shoulder and hips, easing any stress on one side.

Some complain that only purses have all the goodies and pockets for all feminine things. But they have backpacks and shoulder bags too with compartments for make up, lotions, hair brushes, cell phones etc. The other day I saw one at the mall with a compartment inside designed for the small Tampax packs. Jeez! They actually do think of everything.

Another concern I can see is that Indian attire like salwar kameez and saree work well with purses only. But nowadays they have leather backpacks, shoulder bags etc. You can have designer backpacks with multicultural themes including Indian. There are embroidered ones, printed ones, hand crafted ones.

Despite the choices why do women (not just Indian women, even Carrie Bradshaw dragged around a stuffed purse) still stick to purses when there are more convenient as well as stylish ways to carry around our stuff? Perhaps some purse loving women can enlighten the love for old fashioned purses.

Oh well I been spending time at the mall holiday shopping. I am also tempted to start a topic why mens clothing selection is better than womens. I bought two argyle sweaters this season at Buckle and Express Men, both from mens departments and everyone has been complimenting me on what adorable sweaters they are. The slection in the womens department was pathetic. Why would I go around wearing pink bunny sweaters?

Oh btw for those with kids into Twilight. Hot Topic has some really good Twilight tees under $20.

Perhaps this ought to be a holdiday shopping thread....

😆 beats me why women would skip the backpacks or the shoulder bags. There are some really cool design in leather sling bags and it has whole bunch of pockets as well. May be it's high time the designers start coming with a shoulder/back/spine/neck friendly backpacks😆
Seriously RTH, most of the time, the highly fashionable items have some discomfort factor associated with them. Try walking on the sidewalk with pencil heels on and you'll know what I am talking about. I think women should use a comfortable bag during their day to day activities and save the stylish hand bags for special occasions only. This should help with some of the shoulder woos they have been facing of late.

** are we allowed to respond here, Womenz? **😕

But anyways... why no backpacks?
Oh no then more load for y'all to carry as the purse has to go in the backpack?😆 also more efforts to pull out the purse from the back pack if some gurl carrying designer purse rolls her eyes at you watching the back pack.😉 😆😆

A purse to gurls as I understand is like a weapon for a soldier, isn't it? 😉 Also without purse won't that occasional happiness, to miraculously find the lost receipt of sandals (from a hidden 17th pocket) you had to exchange will be gone forever.😆
^^ kiddin

Lolss on serious note, I don't have a say or know, for guys like me dress to the occasion and comfortably carry urself is what matters apni apni pasand😊

im alot like u. FOr me i love to look at handbags and have plenty of them my bother gets me a handbag every hristmas(i have no clue why) but the thing is i hardly ever use them at all! since middle school i have always had my backpack. Then in high school i noticed every single girl carried pocket books then to follow the trend i carried one also, it didnt work for me😆 i hate carrying books in my hand and i love my north face pack so much. So mamny of my friends use to tell me to carry purse instead but i feel uncomfortable. Even when i go out unless its very formal type i just carry my wallet.
