For a change, I thought I should post something music-related. I hope this inspires other musical posts.
Its 1AM and I need to wake up at 5AM -- I have my organic chemistry final exam tomorrow. 🤢 But I see a lot of begging to see some worthwhile topics --- so here it is. Again, its 1AM so if I'm not coherent --- I'm sorry.

A song has many components, ie -- the singer, the composer, the lyricist.

Out of these three main components, who do you think contributes the most to the song?

Now, yes, I know that all three are like man and woman --- one can't live without the other (yes, I am mocking the several gender-related topics in the section right now 😛). But is one's role a little more significant than the others?

Some thoughts to get the discussion started:
-With no singer, a composer just has a tune --- can a tune touch your heart?
-Without a singer or composer, a lyricist just has words --- are words enough?
-Because the music industry revolves so heavily around Bollywood, is their a limit on the genres that Bollywood music provides? If so --- how? And which ones?

I know the topic somehow managed to convey too many different ideas in one post, but that's just food for thought --- discuss whichever aspects you feel strongly about.

G'night!😃

-Your Ajnabee Gal.

woah a music topic.. never heard of those...😊

anyway, here's my theory:

music director - he provides the main tune, that is the main, concept. He provides scope for passion, expressions and soul.. u cant give a feekha tune and expect the singer to do wonders..

Lyricist - he creates the skeleton of the song.. provides scope for sophistication, catchiness and helps carry the tune.. no point in making silly lyrics for an amazing tune..

Singer - without a good singer, the hard work and genius of the lyricist and the md will go to waste.. the singer brings the song to life.. makes ppl want to listen to it..
I quote Rajesh Roshan:
"

RAJESH ROSHAN:

"I really miss him. People complain that present-day music is not up to the mark, but then where are the singers who could, like Rafisaab did, enhance a song four-fold? "

For me its the music all the way as it has its own language and soul. I can survive on instrumentals (combo as well as just piano\guitar\ violin or some of the indian ones like sitar, tabla etc.) ...

all are equally important as far as a song is concerned
if you look at them seprately..his higness believes that words can create magic on their own even without music and a singer. without words, singer is just a voice and we have seen even barking dogs have voice😉. as you said there are good tunes..but meaningless
so in a song, all three are equal
separately lyricist is more important

Hey I thought you are taking a break?😊
To me all are important.
In addition I would also love
visuals and animations.
Also a nice cup of tea and some snacks to go along.
Ah we are talking Heaven here.
Basically I want the whole works and nothing less.

😆 as usual, a DIPLOMATIC response 😆

I think that the heart of a song lies in it's music...and i totally agree to Surkilla...i find it very pleasant to listen to the instrumental of different bollywood songs without any singer or lyrics in it......

OBJ mentioned that the singer is the one who finally delivers the goods. He does not just want any singer, but the best.
Singers do make a difference in that they make the final touch down.

A lyrics can be written in 10 different ways by different lyricists
A tune can be composed in 10 different ways by different composers
A song can be sung in 10 different ways by different singers
But there is one way where these three combine together reach your soul. Reach millions of souls. Than all the three are made for each other. You cannot think about one less than others. Just my 2 cents..
