I was just listening to Rob again, and trying to understand his reasons for making that statement. Though I have to say I'm really glad he is not being diplomatic, and instead being very honest.
I will admit I read about Twilight first on Stephenie Meyer's website, so before reading the synopsis I was aware that this was Stepenie Myer's dream. Soon I picked up the book (this was last spring), and at the very start I made two assumptions a) the book was written in first person, but the main protagonist was NOT Stephenie Meyer, and she was nothing like Meyer. And, b) Edward and Bella were simply two characters bearing no resemblance to anyone in reality these two assumptions helped me a lot, as I progressed further on with the book. I just realized listening to him, that had I not made that first assumption it would have been challenging for me to read the book. I would have felt I was intruding on something so personal.

I agree with you. That's exactly I why I like Robert a lot. Other than the fact that he's got a good head on his shoulders, I adore that Robert took the Katherine Heigl route and stated his opinion on the books. I think he hit the nail on the head, so to speak, with his "sexual fantasy" comment because that is exactly how Twilight reads. This is most prominent in Bella - who lacks any real flaws, thereby, making her a Mary Sue. Anyone who knows anything about Mary Sues knows that they are mere wishfulfillment devices for the author to project their fantasies. Like Bella, Edward too lacks any real flaws which flows in with the wishfulfillment hero scenario.
This is probably a stretch but if Stephenie is really as in love with her characters as she appears to be in the interviews, it would be extremely awkward when they meet. Personally, I'm inclined to believe Robert's taking a potshot at Stephenie for her "The Rob Effect" comment, which was distasteful.

I completely agree with your Mary Sue comment. Bella is portrayed as a goody-two shoes and often also as someone who needs some male to support her all the time. I dont want to go all feminist on everyone, but little girls look upto this book. I honestly really dislike the way Bella is portrayed in the first three books. In BD i think she really does come out of her disillusioned world and grows to be a strong willed woman, which was one of my favorite parts of the book.

I think that Meyer was just bored of her routine life, and this might be a stretch, but in a way to get some excitement started to dream up this story. She's mentioned that her favorite name was Bella, and that the guy she saw in the meadow was her 'dream guy'. All these traits are extremely personal to her, a fact that supports Rob's comments.

As for them meeting and it being akward, i think its hilarious. Ive heard rumours that she dislikes him immensely, and blames him for leaking Midnight Sun. Rob is well aware of that fact, which is why he added that "if i dont get fired' comment in the interview. She must be so mad her dream guy is so not the real one😆

Yea im pritty sure Rob didnt mean it in a rude way, at least he's being honest. It's a little true in some ways, the book is written as if it were a diary, kinda personal i agree. It's a gr8 book tho in my oppinion
