Hey guys!😉
We all know the current economic climate is not good. But are you one of the ones whose livlihood is at at real risk?
In the UK, unemployment figures are at the highest for 11 years.
BT (telecoms company) are shedding 10,000 jobs, with other major companies here also citing compulsory redundancies in the hundreds and sometimes thousands.
Do you think your job is at risk? Or do you think that there are some industries who, even in the midst of a recession, are "doing fine -thankyou!"
With production houses on strike and no serial updates to go glassy eyed over - I'd love to hear from you guys if poss!
Warm regards

My job as such is not at risk. We are in education and our livelihood depends on people wanting to learn which is more or less a given, irrespective of a recession or an economic boom. However, here in the UAE recession has hit the real estate industry rather badly. Having said that, only 200 people have lost their jobs so far, so I guess it's not that bad.

Perfect example SJB - thanks!
I have so many collegues who are affected one way or another.
One poor girl is at the end of her Mortgage period and is unable to find another deal to replace it because lenders require much higher deposits and she simply doesnt have it....
I myself am going through moving house (forced situation - not of our own free will)
I dont think I have ever been so stressed😔

^^^^ awwwww girl🤗 The secne here in the US is quite bad. Every morning we wake up to more companies going bankrupt and more people losing their jobs! In my family, since hubby has a government job, we are not worried as we'll have one source of income no matter what but my heart goes out for single parents losing jobs or others who bank on both salaries to run their households losing jobs. Let us see what else future holds for us.
Hope things get better for you and your friend🤗

Yes & No.

Been there done that...fired...laid off the works.

Currently, I work in the ecological industry which I do believe to be the industry of the future. Although, I would not bank on it, in a market like this you never know.

Well I am a hippie of sorts and would make do with any job. I'm the don't worry be happy kind of person. Being desi money management is inherent so I would plan a budget even if I was reduced to flipping burgers.

Besides there is humor in everything. If I ever lose my job. I plan to try and patent my idea of Six Flags starting a ride called 'Dow Jones'. Having Nintendo release 'Wii Trade' (Like in E-trade but with a Wii) as MMPRPG game to stimulate the economy. And even though scandalous I think its time to introduce the ticker symbol po*n to Nasdaq and start publicly trading in that industry. Cos lets face it human beings are pathetic creatures and some industries flourish no matter what the econonomy.

I'm in Market Research. Though, companies will always go for market research to plan their strategies but obviously if the economy is in recession, no. of project will decrease. And if some big account client goes bust, then it can really hurt us.
But not really scared, cos it's not so bad here in India at present. Secondly, there are always several other options if we care to look for it.

Some great reponses - thanks guys!
For me, I guess I'm a little scared right now because timing is everything.....i.e buying a house, no contract after December, bad time to look for work, cant make Mortgage payment if I dont.......kind of crappy stuff. But I so agree on RTH's approach....to earn a living i am quite OK to do whatever it takes
Fortunately I have been blessed with funtioning limbs and a not so badly functioning brain so in order to feed myself and family am not averse to doing pretty much anything to earn my keep (except selling myself (I'd make NOTHING) or selling someone else....)
Cant hel thinking though, when I hear some nations havent got it so bad, that greed has a directly proportional relationship with recession somehow....
still trying to figure it out....
Anyways, if I complete on me house (scheduled for Hubby's birthday" will have an online celebration to which all you lovely people will be invited!!🥳
For Freedom, I'd pay any price, recession or no recession!

Reminds me of MG's famous quote that goes along the line of there being enough on this planet for every man's needs, but not enough for every man's greed.
still trying to figure it out....

India is not that much affected, but the condition is not bright.

I agree with RTH's , Madmad girl and SBJ.
Personally, my job is secured, But, if this condition continues, job loss in IT field cause so many social problems.
