Kunti was kshatriya princess, and she had ideals and codes of honor to live up to. Plus, Satyavati's sons already had the throne of Hastinapura practically thrown at their feet no matter what, due to Devavrat's vow, but Kunti's sons were continuously antagonized by Duryodhana, and anything that would mar their chances to the throne, or cause anyone to ridicule them, would have made Duryodhan very happy, so Kunti had to think before she acted every step she took.

Agreed she was dependent on her in-laws so she had to be very cautious in all her proceedings, but one thing i'd like to add is that our society was much open in those days and children born before marriage or from extra marital affair were very much accepted in the society also women enjoyed a respectable position in the society, who had a say in her marriage.
When Pandu asks Kunti to do a 'niyoga' he lists for 5 types of children born which were given different titles .....I'm not able to recollect it right now so gimme some time I'll write the info here.....

Such harsh words for a woman whose whole life was a'sacrifice' is uncalled for!
Do you what she went through??
As a child she was given away by her biological father -yadava Shurasena to his friend Kuntibhoja as his adoptive daughter, do u know what trauma a young girl child will go through separating from her parents, even though her adoptive parents are caring enough...??
Later she did not enjoy even her married life with king Pandu because he was unable to father a child also he leaves the palace and exiles himself.
Kunti through Niyoga gets children for Pandu and when her kids are born Pandu dies leaving all of them vulnerable and helpless without any economical support, but as a woman of strong will she rises to a position where she not only brings up her sons and Madri's too to a respectable position in the society.....
Ocourse she has the guilt of abandoning Karna but she was never happy leaving him and suffered whole life for that.

I agree. I really have no respect for people who just say something, but don't use any text to support their claim, or any evidence that their "claim" is reasonable. It really gets on my nerves. If you have an opinion, you should also support it, or no one will give any importance to it.
Along with what you said, I would like to add that Kunti also had to contend with a co-wife, who although is younger than her, was higher than her in status (family name). The only claim to elevate Kunti's status was being the first wife of Pandu.
Kunti also had to go through seeing her children suffer harassment continuously on their cousin's hands, and she couldn't do anything, because her husband was dead, and anyone who might have supported her were sworn to Dhritarastra by loyalty to Hastinapura (Bhishma, Drona, etc.) Vidura was the only one who helped her and her children survive the fire at Varanavata, and he was the only who always supported the Pandavas' claims to the throne and the injustice of Draupadi's vastra-haran.
I would like the ask fiasco one question: Are you a woman? And if you are, are you a woman who suffered? Judging by your words, I think you are neither, because only a woman would understand another woman's dilemma.
People, try to understand Kunti's situation and everything she suffered before judging her. It seems that in this forum, lots of unreasonable judging is going on.

yes you're right...even the 5 pandavas were born through niyog......I respect Kunti very much but I still can't find an answer to this as to why she could not tell the pandavas that Karna is their brother?
Was it because it was hard to admit that she abandoned him when he was born?

don't worry Lalitha..some people get judgemental on this issue because of their "love and admiration" for K arna....few ppl. don't care to see the complete picture and make an opinion..

In my opinion, not revealing this truth doesn't make her weak or selfish...afterall she lost her son due to her silence..
