She was widely referred to as Janaki amma and the Nightingale of Deccan. She was one of the greatest and most influential singers in the history of Indian music. Her voice was pure magic and will remain an eternal part of our musical heritage.

Aakali Rajyam is a 1981 Telugu language film starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. It is a remake of K. Balachander's 1980 Tamil film Varumayin Niram Sivappu that also starred Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead. Music composed by M.S.Viswanathan. The film was also remade in Hindi as Zara Si Zindagi with Kamal Haasan and Anita Raj in 1983, directed by K. Balachander himself.
S. Janaki was the most versatile singer I have ever known in my life. She has 45,000 plus songs in multiple languages, has been the voice of many Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and some Hindi movie actresses of 60s,70s, 80s, 90s. She can sing like child, a young woman , old lady and even mimic female and male voices.
She sang the Original version of Payali Chun munn (sung by K.S. Chitra for the Movie-Virasat- Anu Malik copied the tune) in Tamil - Inji Idupazgha (Movie- Thevar Magan) music composed by Ilayaraja for which she received a National Award in 1992.
There are countless hit songs of her in many languages and I can go on and on about het. She was as good as Latha Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, P. Susheela, K. S. Chitra and others.
In BW movies, Bappi Lahiri used her voice a lot in the 80s.
S. Janaki will be missed but her songs stay with us forever. May she RIP.
