Munch baliye
By: Anita Raheja and Heena Agarwal
November 20, 2005

Ever since the hot-as-a-chilly Neeru Bajwa and the cool-as-a-cucumber Amit Sadh met on the sets of 'Guns and Roses' in Goa last year, they have been unable to peel their eyes off each other.

Amit began the process of wining-dining-wooing in Goa and, after returning to Mumbai, continued to do so. The tangy twosome is set to marry in the near future.

The couple who were eliminated by the voters despite dancing well in the Nach Baliye contest are foodies — they will win hands down if any channel were to organise a Munch Baliye contest!

Neeru-Amit's thought for food

The first thing I have on waking up is
Neeru:
Coffee.
Amit: Hot water.

Lunch at home is
Neeru-Amit:
Roti, dal, sabzi and we cannot manage without raita.

In the evenings I snack on
Neeru:
A paneer or vegetable sandwich.
Amit: Chicken salad.

At night, we dine on
Neeru:
Mostly a protein dish. I am a fishatarian, so when I have fish, Amit has fish too. If he is eating chicken, then I have my dal, roti and sabzi.
Amit: Either chicken, fish or dal, roti and sabzi, with raita.

After dinner I like to eat
Neeru:
A bite of chocolate.
Amit: Jalebi with rabdi.

My favourite vegetable
Neeru:
Zucchini (green).
Amit: Zucchini (yellow).

I dislike
Amit-Neeru:
Anything that makes us put on weight.

My favourite cuisine
Neeru:
Italian.
Amit: Indian and Thai.

We are allergic to
Neeru-Amit:
Nothing!

One person I would like to dine with
Neeru:
Oprah Winfrey.
Amit: Amitabh Bachchan.

In my school canteen, I ate
Neeru:
Nachos with cheese (school in Canada).
Amit: Bun Tac (or bun wada in simpler words).

We both have
Neeru-Amit:
A sweet tooth.

In western desserts I like
Neeru:
Blueberry cheesecake.
Amit: Chocolate cake, actually anything with chocolate.

The restaurants we frequent in Mumbai
Neeru-Amit:
Mezzo Mezzo.

When we are not shooting we work out at
Neeru-Amit:
Fitness Trends.

On a hot summer day we like to have
Neeru-Amit:
Chaas.

On a rainy day we like to have
Neeru-Amit:
Samosas and pakodas.

The first time we went out for dinner with each other was
Amit:
At the Taj, Goa. We had a healthy meal.
Neeru: He had chicken and I had fish.

The first time I cooked a meal was
Neeru:
Back home, many years ago. I used to help out in the kitchen. My grandmom always believed that women should know how to cook — or else she is not a complete woman!
Amit: I have never cooked an entire meal. I still have to learn some recipes to be able to do so.

The meal turned out to be
Neeru:
My dad cried when he tasted it, so I don't know if that was good or bad!
Amit: Am still waiting to cook my first meal.

My favourite international restaurant is
Neeru:
CinCin, Vancouver. It is an Italian restaurant, which I just adore.
Amit: TGI Friday. I like their chain of restaurants abroad as well as in India.

I make the best
Neeru:
Chicken pasta in the world.
Amit: Mutton rum in the world.

My favourite kitchen gadget is
Neeru:
The Kitchenmate, back home. I don't have it here. It whips up anything in a minute, whether it is aata or any other batter. It is the ultimate kitchen gadget ever.
Amit: The grill.

The vegetable I resemble is
Neeru:
An eggplant.
Amit: A big long cucumber.

Our fridge is always stocked with
Neeru-Amit:
Fruits.

My favourite table:
Neeru:
In a cubicle. Or in a corner of the Mezzo Mezzo restaurant. I hate sitting in the centre of any restaurant.
Amit: It would be the same for me as well. Our tastes match so much!

One thing Neeru/Amit hates and I love
Neeru:
Pizzas.
Amit: Chicken. She doesn't eat it at all.

My idea of a perfect romantic date
Neeru:
I would like both of us to be suitably dressed for the occasion. An Italian restaurant with dim lighting would be perfect. A bottle of red wine would be just right because I think red wine is really passionate. We would begin the meal with cheese, olives and tomatoes and follow it with pasta Orizari (with any expensive seafood). Ideally, the dessert should be Tiramisu.
Amit: An Indian 'dhaba'-style restaurant would be the perfect venue. We should be seated under the stars on a 'manjee'. The meal should be accompanied by white wine because it goes very well with Indian food. I will order tandoori fish for both of us, dal makhni, roti and maybe some chicken for me. Raita, it goes without saying, is a must.

Fish in Coconut Sauce for NEERU-AMIT

2 medium sized pomfrets
3 tbsp oil
3 medium sized onions (finely chopped)
6 cloves garlic (crushed)
1-inch ginger (crushed)
1 tsp mustard seeds
8 to 10 fresh curry leaves
tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp home made garam masala powder
1-2 tsp red chilli powder (as per taste)
Salt to taste
cup tamarind water
200 ml coconut milk

Cut each pomfret into three medium sized slices. Clean and wash well. Lightly heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds. When they splutter add onions, garlic, ginger and curry leaves.

Saut on a low flame till onions are golden. Add turmeric powder, garam masala powder, red chilli powder, salt and tamarind water.

Cook on a low flame for 8- 10 minutes. Add the fish pieces and cook for a minute. Add coconut milk and simmer for 5 minutes. Now it is ready to eat.
As you can see guys i am quite busy today 😆
