The nuclear deal that went through trial by fire in the Indian Parliment, IAEA and then the NSG has now passed the US Congress.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is an icon of India's modernization, largely thanked for assuring foreign investment into India has now put our nation on the brink of bringing nuclear supplies to our nation.
Is this a good thing? Some of my Indian friends think that India is not ready for nuclear technology. Personally, I am concerned with what happens to the nuclear fuel rods after they are used. And the storage of nuclear waste.
Being in the US, I'm aware that the country does not encourage nuclear plants. This country still wants the greatest nation on earth, India, to have a lot of problems generating nuclear energy, and disposal of it's waste. Even my family is divided on that issue!
President Corter(per our late president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy)visited India and one was under the impression that the democratic party in the US were great friends of India. Wrong! Completely wrong. A huge number of them in the US Congress voted against the deal, wanting India to first sign the NPT before nuclear fuel was provided to bring power to 350 million Indians in our villages who do not have power.
The Republicans overwhelmingly support nuclear fuel to India. And have little interest in what our nation wants to do with the fuel-whether we want to develop nuclear weapons, provide electricity power in the homes to the millions of villagers who do not have any, or conduct nuclear tests. Yes, if we do conduct a nuclear test, then some repurcussions will take place in the the floor of the US congress or senate or both. Clearly elucidated by "Mr. Nuclear Deal" Pranab Mukherjee.
Ultimately, we may never buy nuclear fuel from the US.
For me, this is an extremely exciting moment in our hisory. What about you?

...and the US senate followed up with a huge victory for India. Will the CEO's of our countries sign? Will India's political parties give us grief? Will our peoples accept it?
