Last night at around midnight i was driving home through one of the most posh neighborhoods in the city. As i approached a stop sign i noticed a guy running down the street and thought that it was a late night jogger. As he heard my car approach he turned around and started waving his arms as to get my attention.

I proceeded from the stop sign and was approaching him in my car. He seemed relieved to see me and as i almost stopped by him I got scared, shook my head and drove off. He threw his hands up in the air and continued walking in the same direction. I basicalled jet home as fast as i could.

Now the question here is......what would you have done? Would you have stopped to ask him what was wrong? Keep in mind that i was alone, it was midnight, and i am a female. This guy was in his late twenties and did not appear to be injured or anything in anyway. Plus there were plenty of houses that he could have easily knocked on if it was a life and death situation.

The reason why i drove off was because I was afraid that he could end up attacking me, or that i would get myself into some mess that i did not want to get involved in. I thought of calling the police but then again, i didnt know what was going on and i didnt want to get involved with some serious situation and have to become witness to something such as a murder, drug case etc.

My friend said he was probably drunk and just out of it. and that if he really needed help he couldve rang someone's doorbell.
but my conscious is getting to me......what would have been the right thing to do? Was i selfish in thinking of myself first?

You did the right thing.....self - preservation is what I believe it is called.
I'd have rung the police - that's the only other thing I would have done differently - it becomes their problem then...

mittijalebi,
I think you did the right thing. Just stop off and move like the law asks you to do.
We have a case in our law firm, where a truck carrying grovel climbed up a hill. It was stopped, so that the people parking on either side of the road will clear their vehicles.
The truck slid back and rammed a home. Luckily for it's residents, they were not at nome. 1/2 a block away, a daycare resides where there were 100's of children.
The construction co. and the county said it's NOT their responsibility. Am glad enough that you escaped with your life.
luv

What did you do MJ? 😲 😆😆 Arrey yaar what if that person was in some of trouble and needed to just make a call. (Probably taken your cell and ran off then? 😆). Kiddin. I feel one should make a judgement based on current circumstances. If he was visibly not sober, neighbourhood was notorious, dressed inappro, later then midnight would have probably done the same. Otherwise after predialing 911, locking the car, opening 2 inch of window would have asked him, whats going on? and he wants me to call cops for help! I say that after being in such situation, when had a flat / late at night / cell had no juice and needed help, still remember and God bless that angel, who not only called the cops but also helped me get the donut on, while cop guarded one lane to avoid anyone running over us.😊

@mittiJalabi, you did the right thing... for a couple of months back in my city a guy stopped on the highway to help some distressed person and got beaten up so badly he barely survived, so the term, better safe then sorry totally appiles and no matter what never get out of your vehicle and stop for someone...cause truth be know its just never safe... Now the only thing that one can do is stay in their vehicle and call 911...like others mentioned.. You did the right thing....dont give it a second thought...👏

thanks for the reassurance. the only thing that was keeping me from calling 911 was that i just didnt want to get involved with anything. what if this was someone who had just witnessed a murder or sometihng else........i dunno, i hope you understand what i'm saying. i didnt want to get involved in something that would cause trouble to me or my family.

thats exactly what i was thinking...that if he was in trouble he wouldve screamed or yelled forhelp. after i drove off he actually started walking......with his hands on his head. and he wasnt a jogger....he wasnt dressed appropriately.....was wearing jeans.
