Last part
"I won't allow it Jai, I will have both of you arrested for bigamy!" she tried once again.
" Nachiket can you show this woman the papers we got from the Judge...I dont want to waste my time with her." saying this he turned towards Bani and looked into her eyes with a sly smile...for Meera's benefit.
" What papers..." she said taking them from Nattu's hands " how is this possible...we were married, we have been married for years...and I did not agree to a divorce." she continued.
"Not divorce Meera, your marriage has been annuled..." " you are lying, its not possible we had so many people as witness it was all over the papers " she quickly interrupted Nattu
" You know Meera, this has always been your problem...you think you are so smart...you thought you would get Jigyasa on your side and force me to marry you. But you forgot Bani and I were never divorced... so our marriage meant nothing in the eyes of the law. I just had to show the judge my original marraige certificate and vola! " Jai finished with a smug smile
" But Bani is dead so how does it matter whether you were divorced or not?"
" ah...but she was very much alive at the time and I just had to show the judge Ganga and the twins' birth certificate to prove that Bani and I were indeed married at the time." he finished, crossing a finger behind his back hoping she would confess soon, he was loosing his patience and did not know how long he could carry on .
" No, this can't be happening"
" You better believe it...and Meera ... I will be bringing my wife to Walia Mansion tomorrow morning, while Nattu will take care of all the arrangements, I would really apprieciate if you pack your bags and move out of my room today. I am not asking you to leave the house till Mohan arrives back, I am sure you will be ok in the guest room or outhouse which ever you choose."
" No Jai Walia , I will not. You think you are so smart. ...but you are mistaken I will not let you be with this woman."
" Learn to accept reality Meera and move on."
" I will not move on, after all that I have done to keep you in my life I will not move on, I thought with Bani gone you will be all mine, but I was wrong....you...you cheap woman get out of Jai's life if you want to live, if I can kill Bani you are nothing...nothing you hear" Meera was getting hysterical now.
" Don't sink so low Meera, we know Bani slipped over the cliff ! dont use that to your advantage...I know you are not capable of this" he said
" Not capable...you are a fool Jai Walia...you never could read a person's character.... you tortured your Bani, didn't trust her when she needed you....and you never figured out that I had your children kidnapped to cause tension between you two......and then you had to bring in the police, so I had to kill the children." Meera was on a roll now.
Despite knowing all this....Jai and Bani were shocked reliving the moment all over again! Nattu sensing this tried to move closer to them...but was stopped by what Meera said next.
" Your sister helped me by telling you all that crap about Bani and you ...you who claim to love Bani to no end...threw her out of your life. Then all I had to do was convince your sister that I will be her doormat all my life and she got us married.....things were working out fine but then your beloved Bani had to come back with a brat in tow. I tried ...I tried to keep you apart but no...your Massi had to clear all misunderstandings and get you together. She even begged me to leave so that you can be togther....didn't you wonder why she suddenly left for haridwar. Well you can thank me for that too." she laughed now
" What did you do to Massi?" Nattu beat Jai in questioning her.
" Nothing really, just told her what I would do to her Bani and precious Ganga if she didn't leave at once... but then your Bani found out and I had to find a way to keep her quite...I had no choice but to push her off the cliff with your precious heir....it was easy once I had Bani out of the way Massi was too scared for the girls to come back or open her mouth. "
Seeing no reaction from any one she stopped and looked around..." and now its your turn" she moved towards Jai and his new bride .
She came to an abrupt stop when she saw Adam walking into the room....followed by the police. (On hearing Meera's confession Adam had moved in quickly to prevent Jai from loosing control over his emotions.)
" We have got the evidence we were looking for Jai....let the police handle it from here...why don't you take Bani upstairs." said Adam, stopping Jai from moving towards Meera.
" Bani....Bani....it can't be...I killed her with my own hands!" Meera stopped now looking at Neeta closely and the way she was clinging to Jai's arm and crying...." you are alive...but how ?"
" You know Meera, you may be a very cunning player , but you aren't God....Yes Bani did not die....she and Atharva were found the same night. She did spent a lot of time in hospitals and getting plastic surgery done, but I was with her all the time. We were just waiting for the right time to get you. Now with your confession its time you paid for all your crimes." said Jai.
Meera did not resist arrest...she quitely walked out with the police, thinking on how she could get out of this mess and get back at these people for the trick they pulled on her.
Few Months Later
The Walia family was celebrating.... the youngest members had turned one . The proud parents were running around arranging things making sure everything was as per Ganga's instructions after all she was hosting the first birthday party for the younger brother and sister.
" Jai , Bani....go and get changed..the guests will start arriving soon" said Massi stepping out of the nursery , followed by Rano and Rashi carrying the twins.
" Ji Massi" said Bani, giving last minute instructions and following Jai to their room.
" Why haven't you started getting ready, kapde to main rakh ke gayi thee" she said seeing Jai standing near the window and looking very pensive...." Kya hua"
" Hmmm....kuch nahi." he said
Bani moved in front of him " Still thinking about the same thing ....you have to let the past go, it wasn't your fault."
" I try Bani, but how can I .....I feel like a complete failure...I couldn't save our children.....and I let you down...let Jigaysa and Meera win"
" No Mr. Walia, you did not let them win....Meera will be in prison all her life....and Jigyasa aunty has learnt her lesson and moved to the ashram. But you will be helping Meera's cause if you keep blaming yourself?"
" how am I helping Meera?"
" If you are not at peace and punishing yourself...I become restless and unhappy...and that will make Meera happy. Please for me for our children you have to forgive yourself...we have so much to look forward to ....and..." she left the rest unsaid and turned to go towards the bathroom.
she was pulled back " and?"
" and I have a special present for you "
' What present, tell me "
" all in good time Mr. Walia...all in good time"
they were interrupted by Ganga who walked in " arey aap abhi tak tayyar nahi hue...dadi is calling you...Bua is here and she wants to start the pooja before the guests come."
" We are coming! Tum chalo..." said Bani and the rest was lost as she was pushed into the bathroom by the laughing father and daugther..." arey mujhe kapde to lene do!"
" I'll pass them to you Bani, you go ahead and finish your shower" Jai winked at Ganga as they pulled out a new saree and jewellery from Jai's cupboard. " Ganga now you go and give Bua and the others your present, mummy and I will be down in 10 minutes."
He closed the door with a sigh and thought about what Bani said...she was right as always...he couldn't undo the past but he promised himself to make their future more beautiful.
