Director Apurva Lakhia completed Ek Ajnabee in 35 days flat. Praising his directorial skills Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan said, "Directors like Apurva Lakhia are the need of the hour. Since he has worked abroad he has excellent managerial skills. Everything was very minutely planned even before we began shooting for the film. From the very first day we were made to feel that Apurva was the captain of the ship and we'd better do what he told us to do. There was no two ways about it. It is because of the discipline that a young director like him commanded that we could complete the film in 35 days."
When asked if the unit was in awe of him, Bachchan replied, "Why should people be in awe of me? We were there to work and that is what matters at the end of the day. Also, we are all normal human beings so there should be no question of anyone being in awe of me."
Bachchan said that he is playing the role of a retired commando.
"Arjun Rampal plays my friend in the film. He is a retired commando too. He informs me about this rich family in Bangkok who is looking out for a bodyguard for their 11-year-old daughter. It is learnt that after drugs, holding innocent people for ransom is the next big business. He doesn't like children because of a incident that occurred in his life. But as he encounters this young girl the past trauma that haunts him begins to heal. It was a special experience working with Rucha the girl who plays the 11-year-old. Today's generation is intelligent. We senior artistes, while giving a shot, we give a number of retakes but young children, they don't require retakes. They are absolutely natural before the camera."
