Parineeta pair Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan may star again in Pradeep Sarkar next adaptation of Bengali classic.
Pradeep Sarkar, who made Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Parineeta on Bankim Chandra's novel, is thinking of creating one more masterpiece involving Parineeta lead pair Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan. This time he has his eyes on another Bankim Chandra's Bengali novel - 'Devi Choudhurani'.
Devi Choudhurani was the result of author Bankim Chandra's sojourn in Jagdalpur, Orissa in 1882. While living there, he heard of a village girl called Prafulla who was married into a rich landowners' family and was badly ill treated. When she was thrown out, she met a dacoit called Bhabani Pathak who inspired to take revenge on her torturers.
This is how the character sketch will be. Saif Ali Khan plays the husband of Choudharani - Brajeshwar. Sanjay Dutt plays Bhabani Pathak, a dacoit who mentors Devi Choudharani. Vidya Balan is the Devi Choudhurani, a unique character in Bengali literature whom the great Satyajit Ray wanted to bring to life in the personality of the great Suchitra Sen.
This narration is mentioned in the Statistical Account of Bengal, maintained by the British rulers of that age. Devi became a dacoit and then gave it all up for unknown reasons. But events show that a temple was built in her name in the Shikarpur Tea Estate at Rajganj in Orissa and that worship has been offered at this temple since then.
