It looks like Anurag Kashyap plans to have a role in every adaptation of Devdas. Not only is he making Dev.D, a modern-day adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's classic, he will also be playing the role of Chunilal in Sudhir Mishra's Aur Devdas.
We know that Kashyap is not averse to acting.
He has done a cameo in Zoya Akhtar's Luck by Chance, where he's playing himself. He has also done a role in Mishra's Tera Kya Hoga Johnny. In fact, it was while shooting for Tera Kya… that Mishra came up with the brilliant idea of casting Kashyap as Chunilal.
He has even fashioned the character of Chunilal differently, especially for Kashyap. Here, Chunilal will not be a wastrel and drunkard. He will be evil, even Machiavellian.
Has Kashyap signed on the dotted line? "Not yet, but he will," says Sudhir Mishra says, "he will not say 'no' to me. I don't have a second choice for the role. It's for Anurag, only."
