KASTURI - A NEW BEGINNING

EPISODE 2 - "TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS"

SCENE 1 - SABHARWAL MANSION - MORNING

FADE IN.

A huge, elegant mansion.

The morning sun falls across the grand staircase.

Servants move around the house.

A piano plays softly somewhere inside.

The camera moves toward the music room.

A man sits at the piano.

His fingers move effortlessly across the keys.

This is ROBBIE SABHARWAL.

Confident. Stylish. Charismatic.

He finishes the melody.

A voice comes from behind.

DEVIKA
Beautiful.

Robbie turns.

His mother, DEVIKA SABHARWAL, stands there with a proud smile.

ROBBIE
Good morning, Mom.

DEVIKA
Good morning.

She looks at the piano.

DEVIKA
Another new composition?

ROBBIE
Just something I was working on.

DEVIKA
You never "just" work on anything.

Robbie smiles.

DEVIKA
Everything you do has to be perfect.

Robbie gets up.

ROBBIE
Not everything.

Devika looks at him.

DEVIKA
What isn't?

Robbie smiles mischievously.

ROBBIE
My breakfast.

Devika laughs.

SCENE 2 - SABHARWAL DINING ROOM

The entire family is having breakfast.

PURSHOTAM SABHARWAL reads the newspaper.

ALAANA is checking her phone.

Robbie walks in.

PURSHOTAM
You're late.

Robbie sits.

ROBBIE
Good morning to you too, Dad.

Purshotam lowers the newspaper.

PURSHOTAM
There's a meeting at eleven.

ROBBIE
I know.

PURSHOTAM
With the new team.

ROBBIE
I know that too.

ALAANA
Dad, don't waste your energy. Robbie remembers everything.

Robbie smiles.

ALAANA
He just chooses to ignore half of it.

Everyone laughs.

Purshotam tries to remain serious.

PURSHOTAM
The new campaign is important.

Robbie nods.

ROBBIE
I'll handle it.

Purshotam studies him.

PURSHOTAM
This time, I want you to work with the professional team instead of doing everything yourself.

Robbie looks slightly irritated.

ROBBIE
I can manage.

PURSHOTAM
I know you can.

A pause.

PURSHOTAM
But sometimes working with people is more important than proving you can do everything alone.

Robbie doesn't answer.

SCENE 3 - SINGHANIA HOUSE

A completely different atmosphere.

Warm.

Lively.

Family laughter fills the room.

DUSHANT SINGHANIA sits with NANDINI.

RAUNAK enters while talking on his phone.

RAUNAK
Yes, I'll be there.

He disconnects.

Dushant looks at him.

DUSHANT
Robbie?

Raunak smiles.

RAUNAK
Who else?

Nandini laughs.

NANDINI
You two haven't changed since childhood.

RAUNAK
Unfortunately, Mom.

Vandy enters.

VANDY
Robbie is waiting for you?

RAUNAK
He's always waiting for me.

VANDY
Why?

Raunak grins.

RAUNAK
Because without me, he has nobody to tell him when he's being impossible.

Everyone laughs.

SCENE 4 - CHAWLA HOUSE

Morning chaos.

Kasturi is getting ready for work.

Kaushalya packs her lunch.

KAUSHALYA
Take this.

KASTURI
Ma, I can buy something outside.

KAUSHALYA
No.

She puts the lunchbox into Kasturi's bag.

KAUSHALYA
Home food is better.

Kasturi smiles.

KASTURI
Okay.

Tannu enters.

TANNU
Kasturi, you're going to that big company today, right?

Kasturi nods.

KASTURI
Yes.

TANNU
Nervous?

KASTURI
No.

Tannu looks at her.

Kasturi sighs.

KASTURI
Maybe a little.

Tannu smiles.

TANNU
You'll be fine.

Kasturi looks at herself in the mirror.

KASTURI
I hope so.

SCENE 5 - CHAWLA HOUSE - LIVING ROOM

Kasturi comes downstairs.

Bauji is waiting.

She touches his feet.

BAUJI
Go confidently.

KASTURI
I will.

BAUJI
And remember...

Kasturi looks at him.

BAUJI
You don't need to impress anyone.

A beat.

BAUJI
Just be yourself.

Kasturi smiles.

KASTURI
That's the easiest thing I can do.

She leaves.

SCENE 6 - SABHARWAL GROUP - CORPORATE OFFICE

Kasturi enters the building.

She looks around.

This is a world completely different from hers.

Employees dressed formally.

Glass offices.

Busy conference rooms.

Kasturi adjusts her dupatta and walks confidently toward reception.

RECEPTIONIST
Good morning.

KASTURI
Good morning. I'm Kasturi Chawla. I was asked to report for the new project.

The receptionist checks her details.

RECEPTIONIST
Please wait. Someone will come to receive you.

Kasturi nods.

She waits.

SCENE 7 - ROBBIE'S ENTRY

The sound of footsteps.

Several employees immediately move aside.

Robbie walks through the lobby.

Everyone greets him.

EMPLOYEES
Good morning, sir.

Robbie nods casually.

He is talking to Raunak.

RAUNAK
You could at least pretend to be interested in the meeting.

ROBBIE
I am interested.

RAUNAK
You were playing guitar five minutes ago.

ROBBIE
That's called multitasking.

Raunak laughs.

Robbie walks ahead.

At that exact moment-

Kasturi turns.

Robbie turns.

They nearly collide.

Kasturi's folder slips from her hands.

Papers fall everywhere.

KASTURI
Oh!

Robbie immediately bends down to help.

They both reach for the same paper.

Their hands touch.

They look at each other.

A brief silence.

Robbie hands her the paper.

ROBBIE
Sorry.

Kasturi takes it.

KASTURI
It's okay.

Robbie notices the name on the file.

ROBBIE
Kasturi Chawla?

She looks at him.

KASTURI
Yes.

ROBBIE
You're the new project associate?

KASTURI
Yes.

Robbie nods.

ROBBIE
I'm Robbie.

Kasturi looks at him.

She knows exactly who he is now.

KASTURI
Mr. Sabharwal.

Robbie smiles.

ROBBIE
Robbie is fine.

Kasturi gives a polite smile.

KASTURI
We'll see.

Raunak looks at Robbie.

He immediately notices his friend's expression.

SCENE 8 - FIRST IMPRESSION

Robbie walks away.

Raunak follows.

RAUNAK
"We'll see"?

Robbie looks at him.

ROBBIE
What?

RAUNAK
Nothing.

ROBBIE
Then stop smiling.

RAUNAK
I'm not smiling.

ROBBIE
You are.

Raunak laughs.

Meanwhile, Kasturi watches them for a moment.

Then shakes her head.

KASTURI
Arrogant.

She picks up her files.

SCENE 9 - CONFERENCE ROOM

Kasturi sits with the project team.

Purshotam enters.

PURSHOTAM
Welcome, Kasturi.

KASTURI
Thank you, sir.

Robbie enters a moment later.

He sits opposite Kasturi.

Purshotam begins explaining the project.

PURSHOTAM
This campaign is extremely important to us.

Kasturi listens carefully.

Robbie occasionally looks at her.

She notices.

KASTURI
Is there something you want to say?

Robbie looks surprised.

ROBBIE
No.

KASTURI
Then why are you looking at me?

Raunak coughs to hide his laughter.

Purshotam looks between them.

Robbie smiles.

ROBBIE
I was wondering if you always ask this many questions.

KASTURI
Only when people keep staring at me.

Raunak finally laughs.

Purshotam smiles slightly.

PURSHOTAM
I think you two will work well together.

Both immediately respond-

ROBBIE / KASTURI
No.

They look at each other.

Raunak laughs again.

SCENE 10 - LUNCH BREAK

Kasturi sits alone in the office cafeteria.

She opens her lunchbox.

A simple homemade meal.

Robbie walks past.

He notices it.

ROBBIE
You brought lunch?

KASTURI
Yes.

ROBBIE
From home?

KASTURI
Obviously.

Robbie looks amused.

ROBBIE
Interesting.

KASTURI
Why?

ROBBIE
Nothing.

He walks away.

Kasturi watches him.

KASTURI
Strange man.

SCENE 11 - SABHARWAL MUSIC ROOM

After work, Robbie returns to his music room.

Raunak enters.

RAUNAK
So?

ROBBIE
So what?

RAUNAK
Kasturi.

Robbie looks annoyed.

ROBBIE
She's just an associate.

RAUNAK
I didn't say anything else.

Robbie picks up his guitar.

ROBBIE
She's very serious.

RAUNAK
And?

ROBBIE
And stubborn.

RAUNAK
And?

Robbie looks at him.

ROBBIE
Why are you interrogating me?

Raunak smiles.

RAUNAK
Because I've known you since we were kids.

Robbie starts playing the guitar.

RAUNAK
And I know when someone has caught your attention.

Robbie stops playing.

ROBBIE
Don't start.

SCENE 12 - KASTURI'S EVENING

Kasturi returns home.

Everyone asks about her first day.

KAUSHALYA
How was the office?

Kasturi smiles.

KASTURI
Good.

TANNU
And the Sabharwals?

Kasturi pauses.

KASTURI
They're... different.

TANNU
Different how?

Kasturi remembers Robbie.

KASTURI
One of them is particularly irritating.

Tannu laughs.

TANNU
Already?

Kasturi realizes what she said.

KASTURI
I mean professionally.

Everyone laughs.

Kasturi walks away, slightly embarrassed.

SCENE 13 - NIGHT - ROBBIE'S ROOM

Robbie stands near his window.

He looks at the city.

His phone displays the project schedule.

He scrolls down.

"KASTURI CHAWLA - PROJECT ASSOCIATE."

He pauses.

For no particular reason, he smiles.

Then he puts the phone down.

SCENE 14 - NEXT MORNING

Kasturi reaches the office early.

She walks toward the conference room.

She hears music.

She follows the sound.

The door is slightly open.

Inside-

Robbie is playing the piano.

Kasturi stands at the doorway.

She listens.

The music is beautiful.

Robbie notices her reflection in the glass.

He stops.

ROBBIE
How long have you been standing there?

Kasturi becomes slightly embarrassed.

KASTURI
Not long.

ROBBIE
You liked it?

Kasturi smiles.

KASTURI
It was good.

Robbie raises an eyebrow.

ROBBIE
"Good"?

KASTURI
Very good.

ROBBIE
Better.

Kasturi smiles.

For the first time, their interaction is softer.

SCENE 15 - EPISODE END

Kasturi turns to leave.

Robbie calls out.

ROBBIE
Kasturi.

She turns.

ROBBIE
Welcome to the Sabharwal Group.

She smiles.

KASTURI
Thank you, Robbie.

She walks away.

Robbie watches her.

The camera cuts to Kasturi walking through the corridor.

Then back to Robbie.

Neither knows it yet...

but their worlds have just begun to change.

KASTURI (V.O.)

KASTURI
Sometimes life doesn't announce the people who are going to change it.

They simply walk into your life...

and become a part of your story.

FADE OUT.

Kasturi and Robbie begin working together. Their professional differences lead to their first major disagreement-but somewhere between the arguments, a strange understanding begins to develop.

Katsuri is simple and sweet. She is taking care of the family already.

She gets a new project. That is a chance for growth. Wish her success.

Robbie heard her name and seemed to recognize it? If they have not met, then how?
