England have marched to the final after a comprehensive win over South Africa, despite being down at 23 for 3 early in their innings. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight lifted them to 169, and then their bowlers never let South Africa have a sniff. South Africa knocked England out of the last two World Cup in semi-finals, but today, England have their revenge as the Proteas come to the end of their journey in this World Cup. And England will face their old rivals Australia, as they look to keep their record of winning every home World Cup, across formats! Sciver-Brunt, of course, was the pick of the lot, with a stunning knock to mark her return from injury and will now want to continue to lead from the front in the big game.
The POTM is Nat Sciver-Brunt: "I was obviously nervous. Probably the occasion gets quite big as well and it increases the nerves as well and I missed some games as well. Managed to switch back into the game and enjoyed it out there. Shabnim and Marizanne are obviously world class bowlers who could do the damage. Heather and I knew we had to see them off and try and capitalise on the other bowlers. [On the surface] Little bit of variable bounce so we had to be strong on the stumps and be very clear on where we wanted to score. When you're in there for a period of time, it does get a little easier. Was difficult for new batters coming in. So the partnership was crucial."
Laura Wolvaardt: "Very disappointed. Just not meant to be for us today. We were outplayed today by a really good England side. I think the main difference between our innings and theirs was the lack of partnerships. They had that really big partnerships and we didn't have any and none of the batters got going. We'll have to go back to the drawing board. I thought it was a pretty decent pitch, coming on nicely. Was pretty happy with the target. But they bowled really well and had different plans for us and we weren't able to step up. Good to see so many fans out here, adds to the vibe and energy. Decent campaign for us. Was happy to make it out of the group stages. Upon reflection, our batting never fired. We had some good innings, but as a whole we weren't clicking. We'll have a look at what we did wrong and hopefully be better next time. [On lessons learnt] I think we have got an exciting youngsters coming through. The likes of Dercksen were pretty good with the bat throughout."
More from Nat Sciver-Brunt: "What a special place to play cricket. We've really loved playing here all over the years. A great ground to show the crowd how much we enjoy playing for England and try and inspire as many people as we can. [On having belief] I guess we've got full confidence in our batting lineup from top to bottom. So from that point of view there was never any doubt about people coming in. The composure we showed was really important. Maybe we could have tried to go harder and it wouldn't have worked out as it did. So yeah, we played smartly. I think we had a pretty good score. We could tell there was some variable bounce and keeping stumps in play was going to be important. I thought Freya Kemp especially did so well with her off-pace deliveries and mixing it up for the batters. [Bowling Smith in the sixth over] To get three overs from the same bowler is pretty tough in T20s. Linsey has done a good job for us in the powerplay and tactically, getting four overs of Sophie in the middle has been important for us. We had our plans set and we stuck to our guns. [On the crowd] The crowd has been so good throughout this tournament. I managed to take it in a little bit, walking out to bat and walking bat and for a few wickets. I cannot wait to do it again at Lord's. Calf's good. [On facing Australia] Massive. What an occasion it'll be. Fronting up at a World Cup, and what an opposition to face in the final. [Is it coming home?] Hopefully."
