My dadi also says so (an ardent rishta fan she is ) but both girls are pretty in their own way, tho i am biased for mukti since the leap promo day itself.

Thing is older /trp audience or old itv viewers like us looks for emotional connect rather than superficial bonds. They never established that emotional connect between maira and abhira or maira with the audience. They made vani a very rootable character by giving her traumatic but strong backstory and then casted a very fine actor in sarah for the adult mukti. You could feel the emotional connect instantly and abhira-mukti bond despite not blood relation is very warm and you could see the mother-daughter bond. Writing matters a lot
