they loved each other. For long term they were the only happy couple in SN (after the 2nd leap)

They had two children twins named Mayank and Nakul. Ganga was also pregnant at that time, but once while trying to save Damini, she fell and later had a miscarriage.

Damini decided to give one of her children to Ganga, Gautam was against it(because he had been the victim of parents gifting their child to someone else) but Damini was adamant along with family so eventually he gave in and Nakul was given to Ganga.

Later Gautam Damini get to know that Mayank was mentally retard, so again Gautam tries to get Nakul back especially since by then Ganga had again got pregnant, but loses. Later they adopted Eklavya the son of Ansh from his first love
