I was recommended that show Zindagi Gulzar Hai. So many used to praise that show for how great and progressive it is, and how the fl is the best. So I started watching. The fl was great but only to turn misogynist herself later by judging women by their clothes and leaving her work after marriage because her husband didn’t want her to work?? She also never called out her husband who had relationship with this girl for a long time before their marriage. I think he was engaged to her or they were supposed to marry, but he judged her for meeting a man whose rishta came to her once. I didn’t understand why he judged her for meeting a man once. I think they even separate because of it.

Then there was this track about fl’s father having 2 wives but he was never called out for his adultery. I was so disappointed with the show. Can’t believe this was the show people were praising so much and recommended it to me. I stopped watching pakistani shows after that. I think they used to be good 20+ years back because I don’t remember 2 wives or slapping stuffs from the few we watched at the time. But now most shows have husband or mother in-law slapping the wife/bahu, 2 wives or that plot about a billionaire guy going crazy over a poor girl he met in the street. There’s this one show I was recently recommended by a friend. That show was great. I have to finish it, but thankfully it didn’t have domestic violence, 2 wives and other stuffs.

Zindagi gulzar is my fav show lol I sometimes re-watch it when I am in that sad mood . Kashaf is so relatable

I think we need to understand the circumstances with that country. Its a predominantly Muslim country, women gets lesser rights, they are burkha clad. Since women has no place men are free to marry - islam has allowed 4 marriage for men. So it's not shocking. And you will see 2 marriages in majority of pak shows, so I guess in their societal way it's normal so no one question that. Kashafs father always taunted that he remarried cause his wife couldn't give him Son

Also it's atlst 15-20 years old show. No one will call out their own father's adultery but kashaf often spoke what audience felt - that het father is opportunist, he only came back when his daughters were upper class now, and he had no impact in their lives. That was a good point.

That tere bin is awful mafia x forced marriage trope. And yeah every other pak show is about cousin marriage with one ex lover and sasuma taunting fl. In that way zgh was different. Kashafs sasuma didn't want the alliance due to class diffence and later they patched up.

The last show i watched properly was khani, and I felt the ending of that show was better in that other pak show context

Kashaf was IAS /irs level in pak. She didn't leave her job. I don't remember her commenting on anyone's clothes, but she was conservative cause she was brought up in that way. There was one epi she wouldn't want to sit in front of car next to driver, and later when zaroon dropped her home her mother was like this is shameful, If anyone see that our names will be dragged through mud etc. so that was the environment for her that a male driptping her home was considered shameful

She judged zaroon for dating a girl for years then broke the engagement. She questioned zaroon if he feels she has that conservative idea who will be lesser than a man. There was a line kya tum mujhe kamzor samajhte ho, and zaroon replies agar main tumhe kamjor samajta to tumse shadi na karta. But yeah he has that idea of male being head of house and he should handle family etc - not a different thing what today's man think. They had their ideological differences and that was okay.

Yeah so the ex fiance of zaroon, asmara, she would roam around with male friends without her phone without informing her parents or zaroon she went to Dubai once without phone . Yeah that was a messed up conversation and the show tries to justify that free minded women like asmara and zaroons sister had their relationship broken cause they couldn't adjust in their marriages, didn't compromise etc. they show the same with zaroons mother cause she was so busy in her party and work she didn't give time to her kids husband and how that resentment boils. Don't really agree with that how conservative kashaf got everything cause she was on that societal barrier but other women didn't. That was misogynist

Kashaf thought zaroon meeting his ex finance was him cheating cause her father did, and before this zaroon came to know his bestie from college has proposed kashaf before he did, which kashaf didn't inform cause that wasn't important. That fight was solved but yeah the last fight was a bit weird cause zaroon was like agar tum mujhe samajh nhi payi to woh tumhara problem hai, kashaf dreaming that zaroon sent divorce papers and how she will have twin girls - so I guess in pak sex determination before kid being born is a thing. But that fight is resolved too and we see in future they are happy, zaroon isn't like her father at all, he's happy with kids and her

In this fight I didn't like how zaroon said to asmara that uss aurat se shadi karna meri zindagi ki sabse badi galti thi. That was awful to say

Before this there was an argument between zaroon kashaf in college time, in the novel this show was based has zaroon slapping kashaf, but here he raised hand and she pushed him away.

I don't really see this show as a love story lol. Zaroon came way later and I think his character grows a lot too, even though it's not what we feel should be in today's time. He was a spoiled rich kid who will flirt everyone, he married a girl who had 1001 issues - her father did two marriages, he's absent, she was raised by single mother, so zaroon understands why kashaf had to be independent that she don't have to rely on a man. He don't have good relationship with his own family but kashaf bridges that gap

And kashaf gets a man who understands her need to be strong but give money to her anyway so that she can spend it. Zaroon stays in her slum like house and don't complain about no ac and electricity. He respects her mother and enjoy her cooking. He is a man who will hold her hand and don't care how tough she is. Also he will be offended that she won't consider his money or house as hers too.

There is a beautiful monologue of kashaf falling in love with zaroon post wedding but she's like I will never tell you, cause that will be a weak point and I can't do it. So basically she got a man her father wasn't

Also the usage of faith on god is very interesting. How kashaf got happiness in her life that was also because she started to believe in god was good.
