I think I heard the rumours too.
She got a look test done because he was shortlisted and he was good in it but when it came down to it , Amar had better chemistry and looked good with Smriti than Cezanne did. Since she had decided Smriti would be her Tulsi and no one else Amar got the part. She had promised him that he would get something fantastic as well if he could wait for a few months, apparently he did and she called him for Kasauti. The show went on floors about a year later and of course she was right about the call. Cezanne and Shweta made a stunning pair and it’s as impossible to imagine Cezanne as Mihir as it is to imagine Amar as Anurag.
Parth and Vaishnavi may join hands to bring Tulsi and Mihir closer and then fall for each other
Earlier it was better when there was no social media and hence no spoilers regarding who is joining the show or what twist is coming. Now everything we get to know in advance which kills the suspense

The worst part is it doesn’t even matter because the shows are so blah too.
And this phenomenon is not limited to shows but movies too. You didn’t know if a movie had a cameo by a popular actor or actress until the movie was out and even then you got the spoiler prior to going for the movie if someone you knew had been to watch the movie and ruined it for you, whether they did it intentionally or not. You had no clue if Salman or Akshay were gonna pop up in KKHH and DTPH until the movie was out.
Nowadays you might as well get the dialogues in the article mentioning the cameo itself along with the location and what costumes the characters will wear even before the actor/actress in question has shot for the cameo.
Singham’s latest movie gave us literally everything from the beginning to the end of the movie in the promo itself. You couldn’t be even excited for the appearance of anyone if you tried because you knew everything beforehand. Then they wonder why movies won’t work anymore
and if there’s anything actually worthwhile that isn’t spoiled by the PH themselves then social media reels will do it for you.

Blunt answer - because things are not as before.
Previously social media had no role in what made a person popular or who could even be considered an actor. Now everyone with a phone is an actor, anyone can be popular with one stupid reel. You don’t have to struggle to get selected and you don’t need to be good to play any part on TV if you can be considered popular on social media.
Showmakers themselves are not as passionate anymore. They know the times have changed. Previously while there were a handful of channels airing serials, they had to be good to ensure that their show was the one being watched by viewers because they could always switch to a movie/news/music/devotional/regional/sports channel. They had to fight for attention, and so they put in the efforts in every department.
Now they know with social media and OTT platforms they’re already fighting a losing battle. Men as it is didn’t really tune into these shows, younger generation is more addicted to social media and content on OTT platforms from across the world where they don’t even stand a chance. Their only audience is the one who is technologically challenged like grandmums and the ones who are not in a financial position to afford internet access or in areas where it’s still a task to even get decent roads owing to the terrain. They know that their audience is limited compared to before but also they are completely at their mercy and hence will take what they can get.
I mean look at it, previously they had to ensure all characters had different personalities which is evident in Kyunki itself. Take the OG cast - Savita, Daksha and Gayatri were as different as they could be, their sons were also all allowed to have their own personalities. They worked on their styling and mannerisms. You had original songs written for shows or even if they adapted a song from a movie, the PH would get a lyricist to write new verses on an already popular song that would fit the narrative of their show and characters. They got music directors and singers to record the new verses set to the melody and tune of the original, without disturbing or disrupting its authenticity but making it their own. Kyunki had an original 4 line song for Anupam Kesar! And Anupam Kesar weren’t even the parallel leads! Anurag Prerna, Sujal Kashish are now more popularly associated with Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Ye and Thoda Sa Pyar Hua Hai than the actors those songs were originally shot on in the movies. Can you think of one show these days that doesn’t simply play existing songs from movies as they are and then never bothers to revisit the song again? Any show with more than one original song that’s not their title track? Heck title tracks and closing credits aren’t even played anymore in most shows.
Previously shows featured women in stronger roles without making them fight over a single man or being the object of obsession of any man either. Shows like Shanti, Itihaas (ironically by Ekta herself), Rajni, Tara etc. all had such strong women as their leads as well as side characters and their romantic relationships were a part of their stories but not the whole focus of the story itself. That’s why you didn’t constantly see a single man being perused by a number of women like Mihir or the same woman being fixated on the guy to ruin his life like Komolika.
Shows could run on the basis of story alone without resorting to unnecessary EMAs. You wanna see a fantastic piece of performance by a male actor? I suggest watch Koshish starring Varun Badola and Sandhya Mridul. Ironically the show is made by Ekta too. It features him as a mentally stunted man who is married to this girl. She’s duped into the marriage and only on her wedding night does she discover that her husband is mentally unstable. She’s extremely poor and he’s from a rich family. The show deals with her journey of fighting to get out of this marriage, coming to terms with her situation of being unable to do anything about it, slowly becoming friends with her husband who is mentally no more than 5 and then how she discovers his mental state is not natural but one imposed upon him. She slowly helps heal him and has to deal with their changing equation while now, when she’s in love with him there are people trying to end their marriage by trying his mental state to go public and get him sent to an asylum for good, just so that the mystery of who is responsible for his state is not revealed and so that he doesn’t get healed.Varun Badola is fantastic in that show and by far one of the finest actors on Indian TV for that show alone even now. Watch his other show, Astitva. He marries a woman a decade his senior because she’s absolutely gorgeous and he’s smitten by her at first sight. The catch, her age makes it difficult for them to continue their conjugal relationship whilst she’s pregnant with his child. He ends up cheating on her because he’s sexually frustrated and gets attracted to a model he’s working with. The show deals with the repercussions of being in relationships based on attraction alone thinking love triumphs all but is an ugly mirror as to how all relationships have their challenges and attraction might help start a relationship but it’s not enough to sustain it after a point.
Shanti was about a woman who was trying to discover her father, so as to get him punished. She’s born as a result of the sexual assault of her mother. She discovers her mother was assaulted by likely one of the two most powerful men in the news industry itself and so her challenge as a journalist and as a daughter is even more uphill.
Name one show these days that can be compared with a Shanti, Astitva or Koshish.
Men in those shows had to perform too because they weren’t more than just eye candy or show pieces giving Pikachu reaction faces. Nowadays they have no real impact and importance and so we get what we get.
When producers/directors start choosing people based on their social media following and not their acting chops, it obviously causes a hit.
I think it also explains why shows are very short lived. These days, it is difficult for a show to run for an year. If it does, it is extremely regressive and nothing worth watching.
yk that's the main issue now in itvOriginally posted by: missFiesty_69

It's just the social media following which is the criteria for choosing a lead
Regressive content is killing ITV.
Itv needs to change or else its going to be dead in a decade or so.
Itv should learn from American tv shows which are family friendly and offer good stories.
Daily soap opera system exhausts actors and working 24 7 is crazy.

Yep, the irony is laughable. I grew up in an era when TV was called the idiot box. Compared to now, anything back then including comedy shows and satires like Flop Show, Tu Tu Main Main, Hum Paanch, Office Office were much smarter than anything on TV today.
Now we have “smart TVs” and the content is as idiotic and regressive as you can imagine and getting worse.

That makes me wonder why the PH don't understand a simple thing that the lesser they reveal about a show or movie the more people will be curious about it.
