She entered SaharaOne's show Zaara Pyar Ki Saugat just two months ago and now the show is going off air. Sounia was playing the title role and she wishes the show had gone on for a while. "It is very disappointing. I had not expected this at all. It's too soon for an actor that you've just entered a show and even before you can settle down, it's going off air," she says.
Sometime ago Sounia had experienced something similar when she replaced Kavita Kapoor in Yess Boss. Within a few months Sounia was out and Kavita was brought back on the show. "That happened for a reason. The old creative team was brought back and they wanted to revive their previous format. So they wanted the previous actors too. It wasn't just me but other actors as well who were brought in later, had to quit the show."
Such things no doubt are upsetting considering one puts in a lot of effort while taking up a new show, she says. However, she believes in being positive and moving on. "I don't let anything affect me. I move on," she says.
At the moment she's happy playing Smita Rai in Jersey No. 10. It's a triangle between a man, his wife and the other woman. Sounia plays the wife. So does she identify with her character? "I identify a lot with Smita. She is a woman of today, a no-nonsense woman. She will go out of her way to fight for justice. She's very balanced and knows what she wants from life."
Is there a conscious move to take up more positive roles rather than negative? "Not really. It just happened that way. I was doing Jersey No. 10 and then Zaara happened. Earlier I played a lot of negative characters and enjoyed doing that. Now I'm more than happy playing positive roles."
