India have to manage to score 300+ runs in their first innings. Then there will be a positive result for us.
On a tricky surface with overcast conditions, India have manouvered along well to finish with 204/6, with Karun Nair showing the way with an unbeaten 52. Jaiswal was out early, and then Rahul chopped one back onto his stumps. Gill was needlessly run out, and Sai Sudharsan and Ravindra Jadeja got starts but couldn't consolidate. Karun Nair was watchful throughout his innings and he found some support with Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar, as England won't be fully satisfied with their bowling effort. They had the better of conditions on this rain marred first day, but didn't bowl with enough consistency and bowled too many wide deliveries. Josh Tongue produced two jaffas to get right of the two left-handers, and Woakes and Atkinson chipped in with wickets as well. England will most likely be without Woakes for tomorrow and maybe the rest of this Test, as he hurt his left shoulder while diving to protect a boundary.
