You're right. In Kerala, it's considered auspicious when the milk boils over and overflows during the housewarming ceremony. A good omen. The same while cooking rice for the first time in the new kitchen during the housewarming ceremony. The boiling frothy water is allowed to overflow. I guess, somehow this overflow symbolises abundance and prosperity since the ceremony is for a new beginning.
