The massacre done in Amritsar by Indian soldiers under the command of the British commander Dyer is indeed a fact...the courtroom drama isn't.
I think the movie Sardar Udham has more authenticity than this movie.

The court case did happen. But it was Sankaran getting sued by General Dyer for defamation in his book about Gandhi where he held Gandhi & Dyer responsible for all the atrocities in Punjab.
While Sankaran lost, it brought to light the Jalianwala Massacre to the world's attention and in turn led to massive Outrage against the Empire in the West, for crimes against humanity, which was well hidden until then. In a lot of ways, it was the beginning of the end, for the Empire.
The film is fiction but Sankaran was a Hero, not for the case which was more of a lucky break, but for his book exposing the Gandhi- British nexus in "Gandhi & Anarchy".
Yes, there was a court case because of the book Sankaran wrote, but it was between Sankaran and O'Dwyer (the direct supervisor of Dyer).

Dyer (who commanded the massacre) was an accused witness in the Hunter Commission some years before the Nair-O'Dwyer trial...
I don't have something against fictionalizing historical events, but Kesari 2 is hailed as historically relevant which it isn't except using the massacre and some names.
The first to make the massacre very publicly known was the Hunter Commission lead by order of the British Empire because England was shocked about the massacre including high profile politicians (like Churchill e.g.) and condemned it.
"Well made historical drama" - in my mind, once again the Hindi filmindustry doesn't reflect the "historical" even in a fictionalized movie... political agendas never will allow that. What O'Dwyer and Dyer did was also sustained by failures from the Indain side. Did they show t h a t ???
There was a time I was interested in what Taran had to say/write...it's over since last year...
Still there are a few I trust with their reviewing and o w n opinion about a movie (especially when read after having watched the movie myself)... strangely they skip to review certain movies openly they don't regard as worth to talk/write about for everyone to read...
Nothing special, imo...Sundays mostly are higher in box office than any other day...
Sacnilk:
Day 1 [1st Friday] ₹ 7.75 Cr
Day 2 [1st Saturday] ₹ 9.75 Cr
Day 3 [1st Sunday] ₹ 12 Cr
Total₹ 29.5 Cr
Btw., the r e a l courtroom 'drama' would have given a more valuable content than this politically tainted fake one, I think...
