Myth Buster

Only obese people get high cholesterol . This is not true , even slim persons can get high cholesterol levels in the blood if they habitually consume unhealthy diet and have lack of exercise .

Myth buster

You don’t need to check your cholesterol until middle age , this is untrue . Serum cholesterol levels must be regularly checked for everyone from young age, especially those who have cholesterol related complications in the family history . Corrective measures should he taken at the earliest .

To boost your "good" cholesterol (HDL), focus on incorporating foods rich in healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants, such as fatty fish, nuts, seeds, avocados, whole grains, and olive oil.

Foods to Include:

  • Healthy Fats:
    • Avocados: Rich in monounsaturated fats, which can help raise HDL levels.

    • Olive oil: A good source of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants.

    • Fatty fish: Salmon, mackerel, and sardines are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which can increase HDL and lower triglycerides.

    • Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
  • Fiber-Rich Foods:
    • Whole Grains: Oats, barley, and brown rice contain soluble fiber, which can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and improve HDL levels.
    • Fruits and Vegetables: Berries, apples, pears, and other fruits and vegetables are good sources of fiber and antioxidants.

    • Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are also high in fiber and can contribute to heart health.
  • Other Heart-Healthy Foods:
    • Dark Chocolate: In moderation, dark chocolate can provide antioxidants and may help lower LDL cholesterol.

    • Garlic: Contains compounds that may benefit heart health.

    • Soy Foods: Soybeans and soy products can contribute to a heart-healthy diet.
